Most recently, the big-box brand teamed up with author, actress, chef, and all-around social media darling Tabitha Brown. Set to drop June 11th, Brown’s first collection will hit the shelves with over 70 pieces of clothing and accessories. Subsequent collections will make their way into stores in the coming year, with a total of three more that feature not only apparel, but lifestyle items that include everything from entertaining and kitchenware to home and office furnishings.

The inaugural collection, dubbed Tabitha Brown for Target, will focus on bright prints and happy-go-lucky patterns that are just perfect for summer. As vibrant, creative, and bold as Brown herself, the collection was also designed with affordability in mind, and many of the pieces are available for around $30 or less. As Brown said in a recent interview with Today, “I wanted everybody to be able to afford the collection. It doesn’t cost a lot of money to look good.”

The inspo behind the collection has a lot to do with Brown’s impeccable taste, and her desire to make women feel comfortable in their own skin. Expect lots of breathable materials and comfy extras like pockets. As Tabatha herself says, “if you’re not comfortable, it takes away your confidence.”

Through her use of mixed prints and patterns, Brown wanted to create apparel that’s fun to wear, with feel-good fabrics that are cheerful and bright. She says, “This summer, people are finally getting out of their homes again [and] what better way to begin summer 2022 than with fun colors?”

Unfortunately for us all, this year’s solstice celebrations are going to be radically altered because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The English Heritage organization, which manages Stonehenge, is asking people not to visit the site, instead offering a virtual livestream of the event for those near and far to enjoy.

The annual summer solstice event at Stonehenge is typically attended by thousands of people — exactly the type of gathering that’s been banned or discouraged around the world as the coronavirus has spread, sickened, and caused hundreds of thousands of deaths. In accordance with the UK’s own governmental guidelines, the Stonehenge site has been closed to the public since March, and it looks like it’s going to stay that way for the time being.

Nichola Tasker, the director of Stonehenge, explains that his team has “consulted widely on whether we could have proceeded safely, and we would have dearly liked to host the event as per usual, but sadly in the end, we feel we have no choice but to cancel. We hope that our livestream offers an alternative opportunity for people near and far to connect with this spiritual place at such a special time of year, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back next year.”

Stonehenge is a popular tourist destination on an average day, typically hosting around 800,000 people annually, but the summer solstice holds a special meaning for certain religions in addition to the ever-present spiritual pull. For example, in the 17th and 18th centuries, many believed Stonehenge was a Druid temple built by ancient Celtic pagans as a center for their own religious worship. Other groups celebrate the site with the belief that it has otherworldly origins. Alternatively, some flock to the area with the notion that the site was used to honor the dead through extravagant ceremonies.

Whatever the reason for your desire to be at Stonehenge in the early hours of June 21st (local time), it looks like you’ll just have to set your alarm to make sure you’re in front of a computer screen instead. Hit up the English Heritage’s social media accounts to join in the experience.

While made of wood rather than stone, and not quite pyramids per say (more like three-dimensional triangles), these designs are still inspired by the megalithic architecture of ancient Egypt in more than one dimension. Scalable sides are the innovative key here: hatches that allow access to each level directly from the climbable exterior shell.

Like its ancient architectural forerunners, these small-scale versions have scalable sides – in this case more manageable in size. Rather than a a stepped side/roof system, a series of intentional spaces in the exterior wood slats double as handhold and foothold slots.

Double-duty combination door-and-window elements (disguised as part of the roof surface) flip up to let in light, air and even people on all levels while leaving some areas more secluded than others. There is also potential for expanding these lengthwise to accommodate multi-family housing and/or larger-community functions.

Three floors accommodate a central guest/child sleeping level sandwiched in between the private top story (for master bedroom and bathroom) and public first story (containing kitchen and living room). The triangular taper works well with this concept, leaving less (and more-enclosed) space on each level progressing upwards to the top.

VisionDivision envisions each unit in its Peak Series catering to the climate of a particular country or region, with prefabricated variants suited from cold springs and hot summers, dry desert plots, wet water-side sites and snow-topped mountain-peak properties – the ultimate vacation home for any season or location you can imagine.

If you’re living in the present, your mind is probably running laps around leisurely days at the pool and summer barbecues. While you’re busy taking in the moment, mega-retailer Target is well ahead of the game in planning your fall decor and holiday parties. Halloween decorations have already popped up in the store’s seasonal aisles, with the “Hyde and Eek! Boutique” displaying the pumpkins and witches we don’t normally see until the pencils and notebooks from the back-to-school rush are long gone.

Target may have picked up on the holiday vibe early, but so far it appears that its offerings vary greatly depending on location. Luckily, all the creepy, cute, and costumey items that are available in stores are also available for pre-order online. That means that even if you don’t have a Target nearby (is that possible anymore?), you can still order your Halloween decor now and cross it off your fall to-do list. Shipments are expected to begin September 8th, which still gives you plenty of time to unpack and set everything up before the holiday crunch arrives.

Not only is the collection early to market, but it’s also vast, providing seemingly endless options for the 2019 Halloween season. In fact, the range of items might be the most newsworthy part of this story, since it’s not entirely uncommon to see some spotty Halloween collections popping up here and there in the retail world.

First there’s the Pumpkin Parlor Decor section, which is stuffed with orange and black pumpkins and plush creatures. Then we have the Pumpkin Parlor Party section, which offers all the table figurines and serving pieces your holiday party could ever need. The Ghoulish Garden Decor is available to haunt your space with artificial biting plants and spooky terrariums. Alternatively, you can crank up the nightclub vibe with the Moonlight Bash and Party decor, complete with a skeleton DJ and tableware and, of course, neon lights.

Classic styles are always en vogue, too, so Target curated their Harvest Decor set with traditional wreaths and pumpkin decorations you can keep out from the first days of fall all the way through Thanksgiving.

The question of whether it’s a “good” move to roll out Halloween in July is subjective. After all, many of the presale items are showing as sold out even though they aren’t even being released until the end of August. That shows both a demand and a profit margin so it seems like a win-win, except for those who feel late to the game trying to buy a sold out item four months in advance of the holiday.

While some consumers scoff at what might appear to be an effort to consistently get a jump on the competition by bringing out seasonal items well in advance of the actual holiday, it appears that most people are embracing the early release. Perhaps they are perpetual goblin and ghoul-seekers happy to have an option other than Amazon to track down All Hallow’s Eve decor during the off-season. Maybe they don’t see Halloween as a season, but as a lifestyle. One thing is for sure, they are willing and eager to shop for Halloween in July while the selection is good and the days are still long.

One of the most exciting spring and summer collections to launch this year comes from the New York-based Dmitriy & Co. This proud name in elegant furniture design has had a long history, which, according to its official website, “can be traced back to Lower East Side New York, where a mastery of handcraft furniture-making was hard-earned over three generations. For Dmitriy & Co, the making itself has always served as both a vehicle of artistic expression and an ancient trade that remains embedded in our very being — for us, the compulsion to design and produce by hand is an undeniable force of nature.”

Dmitriy & Co’s approach to furniture design combines age-old crafting traditions with contemporary thought processes. Each one of their pieces is made by hand, with handsewn upholstery, painstakingly jointed timbers, and seamlessly finished edges combining to achieve a precise and sophisticated result. The new collection boasts a number of these enviable pieces, including the unique Rainer Sofa, a dusky blue offering with a signature style and shape that sits well in any living room while proudly standing out in its own right. A lot of this individuality can be attributed to the trestle motif on the couch’s exposed timber arm frames and supports, which themselves are made from Silverwash-finished walnut. Researchers have found that the warmth, pressure, and sense of security provided by weighted blankets could in fact prompt the brain to release more serotonin, the “happiness hormone,” along with melatonin, the hormone that promotes sleep and helps regulate the sleep cycle. Deep touch pressure can also help decrease nighttime levels of cortisol, the stress hormone linked to regulating blood pressure and the metabolism, thereby helping reduce inflammation and assisting with the creation of new memories.

These effects can be particularly useful to people with insomnia, depression, anxiety, autism, and sensory processing disorder, but just about anyone can benefit from them.

Weighted blankets usually consist of textiles filled with plastic pellets for an evenly-distributed weight ranging from five to 30 pounds total. All that material on top of you might sound great in winter when you could use the extra warmth, but what happens when hot weather arrives? A company called Hush says they have a solution. Their “Hush Iced” weighted blanket is specially designed for summer with cool-to-the touch fabric that wicks away sweat.

Incorporating the same advanced weight distribution and special short threading used to create their original weighted blanket, Hush has modified the fabric of the Iced’s cover just enough to make sure you don’t have to give up the blanket’s benefits for the warmer half the year. It’s also great for people who are just hot sleepers all around, even when it’s below freezing outside.

They explain: “Hush Iced is unique in that it provides a cooler way to reap the benefits of weighted blankets. Did you know that when you’re getting ready to take a snooze, your body temperature decreases to initiate sleep? Science shows that room temperature should be between 68 and 72 degrees for the optimum sleep benefits. Hush Iced can help you get there by preventing you from overheating, even during the nastiest heat wave.”

The Hush Iced blanket is available in three different weights: 15 pounds for people whose body weight is between 100 and 170 pounds, 20 pounds for people with a body weight between 171 and 240 pounds, and 25 pounds for those weighing 241 pounds and up. If you’re getting a queen-sized blanket for two people, Hush recommends going for the class above your own individual one.

The blanket is available in heather gray, and its cover is made of “proprietary fabrics” along with a bamboo and cotton blend. Inside, it’s made from things like microfiber, “non-toxic glass sand,” and cotton.

The Kickstarter campaign for the Hush Iced blanket was funded within just 45 minutes of its launch. You can still back the project to get the blanket at a special pre-order price, or you can wait until it’s available to the general public later this year.

Some kind of organizer that keeps certain foods up out of the ice seems like an obvious way to solve the problem, but somehow, few such products actually exist. The JOEE, which takes its name from baby kangaroos, is looking to change all that.



The JOEE’s designers deem their creation “the ultimate hard cooler organizer,” consisting of a simple plastic insert that sits above the main ice compartment of your cooler to keep certain foods separate and protected. Cans and bottles are heavy and can end up smashing the more delicate items, so the JOEE gives them their own little upright compartment, holding six 12-ounce cans or three bottles. There’s also a section for clean, hygienic ice storage for your drinks and — perhaps most crucially — a dry food storage area. This section of the JOEE cooler organizer lets foods prone to sogginess stay chilled without directly touching any ice, holding up to nine sandwiches at once.

Made of impact-resistant BPA-free plastic, the JOEE also boasts a lid that doubles as a clean cutting surface, and test runs by its makers show that it keeps ice cold 13 percent longer than usual, even in high performance YETI coolers. Since it’s modular, you can leave your heavy cooler outside and just bring in the organizer to pack your foods and drinks. Then at the end of the day, just run it through the dishwasher.

The JOEE doesn’t just fit YETI coolers. It also works with a wide variety of models from Grizzly, Igloo, Coleman, Cabela’s, Canyon, Orca, Pelican, and more. If you want to determine whether it’ll fit your cooler, just make sure the bottom of the inside measures at least 9-and-3/8^ths inches wide, the inside top measures between 10-and-3/8ths and 13 inches wide, and the interior depth is at least 8.5 inches.

This updated version of a crowdsourced favorite lets you make solid balls or cubes of ice that are clear, have no odor to affect your drinks, and can even hold a flower or a piece of fruit for that extra “wow!” factor. You can also use it to make ice animals and other fun frozen creations.
The silicon molds turn out four 4.5-centimeter ice balls at a time (or one six-centimeter one), all bubble-free. How does it work? Well, the included Polar Ice Tray’s insulation makes the water freeze from the surface down. “By allowing the water to freeze gradually from top to bottom, layer by layer, air and impurities are compressed to the bottom,” the inventors explain. The “white ice” with all the impurities ends up in a special tray for discarding.

This forest structure that takes site-specific design to new heights, bending its entire layout around trees and, in a few cases, even building them into the structure itself.

For this remote home in Japan, K2 Design and their clients wanted to preserve the existing forest of pine and cherry trees, consequently creating a series of small interconnected volumes that break up the home into a series of cozy spaces.

Much of the structure is also lifted off the ground, making the experience of using the connective rooms and pathways feel like more like passing through the forest canopy than simply walking in the woods.

There were functional benefits to raising the building as well – a reduction of snow buildup around its edges during the winter, and protection against ground moisture in the summer.

“This is a guest house located in the forest of Daisen piedmont, Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture. The house site is situated in the midst of abundant cherry and pine trees, standing at natural well-balanced intervals with trunks reaching towards the sky with bountiful leaves. The figures of the trees are beautiful. They are the legitimate habitants of the forest.”

“Sensitive dialogue with the site is requisite to building a house that lies in coexistence with nature. Our building plan was drafted according to this idea. We arranged the house with most surrounding trees untouched and ensured the living space in the aperture to a maximum extent. A style coexisting with the forest is the keystone of our design, so we carefully surveyed and analyzed the lot for building, and designed a way to connect each function space of the house by short connecting passages. Differently-pitched roofs snuggling up to the extension of branches and foliage made it possible to take in sunlight effectively.”

Australian architecture is amazingly varied, yet its successes often succeed on the merits of their ability to keep materials and spaces simple, green, local and comfortable.

The Drew House by Anthill Construction is a wonderful example of all of these qualities, curled up in a series of prefabricated pods built offsite then shipped to a remote forest for assembly.

The curved interior has a hobbit-worthy homey quality, while consequently-curvalinear built-ins throughout seem both retro and contemporary. It also has a cave-like sense of enclosure.

“The Drew house is a holiday retreat for Australian photographic artist, Marian Drew, and her brother Derek. In their youths the family took camping trips to the same area near Seventeen Seventy, a town just south of Gladstone and the most northerly surf break on the east Australian coast at the start of the Great Barrier Reef.”

“The house aims to create a kind of luxury campsite nestled amongst the knarled Bloodwoods and ancient Palms of the pristine ridge top site with forms that also reflect the strong iconography of the sugar mills that were also a large part of the family’s history. Living and sleeping pods along with a bathhouse were built in Brisbane, close to construction services, and transported the 500km to site fully completed.”

Separated sleeping and living areas allow the privacy of holidaying family groups and also more easily integrate into the existing landscape, which has been minimally disturbed. Covered walkways connect the various pods to the large outdoor living and dining area for shared meals and gatherings. This ribbed parabolic roof structure uses Aramax metal sheeting to free span the two identical, but reversed, hardwood timber truss frames.”
