But surprisingly less luxurious is their former home on the grounds of Kensington Palace, where the couple lived early in their relationship. The realities of living in the “tiny” 1,324-square-foot Nottingham Cottage are revealed in the documentary’s home movie footage.

Affectionally known as “Nott Cott,” Nottingham Cottage is among the smaller houses on the palace grounds, containing two bedrooms, one bathroom, a kitchen, small living spaces, and a petite back garden. Harry first moved into the cottage in 2013, and Meghan joined him in 2017, shortly before the couple’s engagement.

Home movie footage depicts interiors that look cozy and relatable. The proportions are small, the materials similar to those you’d see in any other modest home. The kitchen features a checkered black and white floor, white cabinets, and unremarkable gray countertops. This is where Harry proposed to Meghan while roasting a chicken. The compact living room is featured in a scene in which the couple announces their engagement to the world.

Closet space is apparently tight, as the prince is pictured dressing in his officer’s uniform with a freestanding rack of clothing behind him. In another shot, Meghan stands in the doorway of an apparently carpeted bathroom. “It was just a chapter of our lives where I don’t think anyone could believe what it was actually like behind the scenes,” she said of the couple’s time in the home.

“It is on a slight lean with really low ceilings,” Harry said. “I don’t know who it was for. They must have been short,” Meghan added, “He would just hit his head constantly because he’s so tall.” Oprah was apparently astonished by the size of the cottage when she visited. Harry said, “Well, Oprah came over for tea, didn’t she? And when she came in, she sat down, she goes ‘No one would ever believe it!'”

Nottingham Cottage was designed by architect Christopher Wren for William III and Mary II in 1689. The decor and finishings have changed several times since then, as the cottage was occupied by various generations of royalty. Queen Elizabeth II’s uncle, Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester lived there prior to the 1950s before it became home to several senior members of the royal family’s staff.

Notably, the cottage was once promised for life to Marion Crawford, a former governess of then-Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, but her rights to it were revoked after she published a tell-all memoir about the royal family.

Other occupants included Miles Hunt-Davis, the Duke of Edinburgh’s private secretary; Robert Fellowes, Queen Elizabeth II’s private secretary, and his wife Lady Jane Fellowes, who is the older sister of Princess Diana; and Prince William and Kate Middleton, the then-Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, prior to the birth of Prince George. After Harry and Meghan moved out, Princess Eugenie moved in along with her husband Jack Brooksbank and their son August.

As for Harry and Meghan’s Montecito home, where they live with their children Archie and Lillibet, it seems that the couple may find it not quite private enough given their ultra-high profile. Though the seven-acre estate is located off the beaten path about 90 minutes north of Los Angeles (near the estates of Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres), the family still has trouble with trespassers and paparazzi.

Realtor.com reports that police were called to the residence nine times in nine months, once resulting in the arrest of a man named Nickolas Brooks, who drove over 2,300 miles from Ohio to intrude on the property. Next up for Harry and Meghan might be a more secure residence within a guard-gated community.

Located inside LA’s Westfield Century City shopping mall, the SKKN pop-up displays small cylindrical and spherical products on huge slabs of cement and alcoves in the smooth, bare walls. Perron-Roettinger co-founder Willo Perron says he drew inspiration from rock quarries when designing the 1,330-square-foot space, bringing in large-scale shapes meant to evoke massive chunks of raw minerals. Instead of contrasting with the products, the setting amplifies their simple, elemental forms.

If the products are a little mysterious, that’s because they’re meant to be. Perron-Roettinger created opaque containers that obscure their contents, with labels like “face cream” and “exfoliator” printed in tiny, barely legible text. The refillable containers are also housed within secondary packaging that’s textured to resemble naturally occurring materials.

“We like how it feels to hold a ceramic mug, the natural color of a clay pot, what it feels like to run your hand through sand, and all the different shades and textures of limestone quarry,” Perron-Roettinger co-founder Brian Roettinger told It’s Nice That.

Staying within the same limited gray and beige color palette, Kardashian’s SKKN Home Accessories Collection is also on display at the LA pop-up. The five-piece houseware collection aims to capture the “calming aesthetic and neutral color palette of Kardashian’s home.” All made of hand-poured concrete, the collection consists of a vanity tray, spherical storage container, waste basket, tissue box, and a canister with a lid.

“I knew I wanted to complement my skincare collection with home accessories, designed to display my products and elevate the home with modern, minimalistic elegance,” Kardashian says. “When designing this collection, I wanted to bring the monochromatic interior design elements from my home to others. I’m excited to be able to share this collection with everyone.”

The SKKN pop-up shop will remain in place until the end of the year. As stark as the interior design and products may be, there’s no confusing the store for that of any other brand. Two enormous digital displays splashed with Kim’s face bookend the space, reminding shoppers what they’re really there for: a little bit of bottled essence du nouveau riche.

Willo Perron previously designed a pop-up store for Kardashian’s brand of undergarments, SKIMS, in 2021. Located on the ground floor of the Parisian department store Galeries Lafayette Paris Haussmann, the store was similarly smooth, beige, and low on embellishments, but drew inspiration from the hues and curves of human bodies instead of stone. The same design was repeated for a second pop-up store in Los Angeles later that year.

Anton Gerashchenko, advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, tweeted “Ukraine today is the center of attention, center of resistance, freedom, true art. @banksy confirmed that he created seven murals in different parts of Ukraine, including Borodianka, Irpin, and Kyiv. It means a great deal to us. We are so grateful, Sir!”

In Horenka, on the ground floor of a devastated apartment block hit by Russian bombs in March, one mural shows a man lounging in a clawfoot tub, scrubbing his back with a brush. “For me, it means washing off all the dirt. The dirt of the Russian Federation,” local resident Tetiana Reznychenko told Reuters. “And this drawing makes me feel as if I have cleansed myself of the dirt that descended on us.”

Reznychenko told reporters that she served Banksy’s team a mug of instant coffee in her apartment when she saw them outside in the cold. Her damaged building currently has no electricity, heat, or running water, but she’s using a wood stove to get by for now. “Winter has begun, and we don’t know what will happen next,” she told Reuters. “Firemen brought us non-drinking water… but it will freeze unless we move it inside.”

Another mural in Borodyanka depicts a man resembling Russian president Vladimir Putin being thrown to the ground during a judo match with a young boy. Putin held an honorary black belt in judo until it was revoked earlier this year by World Taekwondo. The fourth mural shows children playing on a seesaw made from part of a tank. The fifth mural depicts a young gymnast holding a streamer aloft, and the sixth is a woman in a gas mask bearing a fire extinguisher. They all share a common theme of resilience in the face of horror and destruction.

Located about 35 miles northwest of Kyiv, Borodyanka was besieged by Russian forces early in the invasion and suffered extensive aerial bombardment, with many buildings reduced to rubble. Most of its 13,000 residents fled prior to its Russian occupation in late February. When the town came back into Ukrainian control in April, returning residents found that even those structures that had escaped bombs and shelling had been ransacked and burglarized.

Ukrainians like Alina Mazur, a 31-year-old from Kyiv, have traveled to the Borodyanka area to see the murals in person. “This is such a historic moment for our country, that people like Banksy and other famous figures are coming here and showing the world what Russia has done to us,” she told Smithsonian Magazine.

Enter Taylor Swift’s former New York residence, a charming carriage house in Greenwich Village which the songstress rented as recently as 2016. Situated in one of NYC’s most iconic neighborhoods, the five-story former pop palace is perhaps most famous as the subject of her song “Cornelia Street,” in which she refers to the early days of her relationship with the actor Joe Alwyn. The townhouse is situated on the quaint (you guessed it) Cornelia Street near Washington Square Park. At the time of Swift’s living there, it was owned by former Soho House executive David Aldea, who according to Vulture didn’t even know who Swift was when she asked to rent the property while renovations were being made to her own Tribeca apartment.

Upon first glance, 23 Cornelia Street is easily overlooked from the street. With an unassuming brick facade and wooden doors, the property doesn’t exactly scream “glamour.” Swift herself supposedly chose the townhouse because of its private garage, through which she could enter and exit in relative peace (though devoted Swifties naturally discovered where she was staying at the time).

Built in 1899, the historic home is a sprawling 5,500-square-foot dream of luxe grandiosity and glam touches that are very fitting for a star of Swift’s caliber. The basement alone is an airy, seemingly sky-high ceilinged lounge complete with a queenly glass chandelier, a private garden, indoor pool, and gym area. But it’s the townhouse’s living room which undoubtedly holds the most appeal for fans, as it’s featured in a video Swift posted of herself at the time writing the song “King of my Heart.”

During her tenure at 23 Cornelia Street, Swift reportedly used up the entire home, which boasts a total of four bedrooms and six bathrooms. It’s hard not to picture her using the sumptuous primary bedroom, complete with a small terrace and free-standing bath, or spending time on the rooftop terrace with her beau (as she sings in “King”: “With all these nights we’re spending/Up on the roof…”).

The home most recently sold in 2019 for a whopping $11.5 million. Today it’s unoccupied by residents, but instead serves as a “corporate house” for the Italian furniture company Zanotta. Any fans dying to get a glimpse into the pop star’s former abode can still book a tour hosted by the New York Junior League (NYJL). Friends

While Monica Geller’s iconic living room from the hit 1990s sitcom was already slathered in pastel purple, Angi switched it up to Anderson’s more signature red and pink palette. They also decluttered the space and added a retro wood-encased TV console. By setting the furniture at right angles, they produced more symmetry, a move echoed by the giant swaths of fabric balanced on either side of the main window. Phoebe Buffay’s legendary guitar also gets a place of honor in this Wes-ified room.

Russian Doll

This critically acclaimed Netflix series features a main character (Nadia) who finds herself in trapped in time, continually “waking up” in her bathroom at the exact same moment after every loop. In the show, Nadia’s bathroom is dark with black tiles, brass accents, and minimal lighting. The Angi designers gave it a Wes Anderson makeover by lightening the mood considerably. Geometric blue tiles in contrasting patterns create a type of symmetry above and below the vanity, as do stacks of steamer trunks placed strategically on either side. Warm-colored wood breaks up the busy-ness of the colors and designs. Savvy fans can also spot Nadia’s cigarette pack left casually in one corner.

Bridgerton

While this Netflix show about 19th-century love and gossip in British high society has already spawned an entire “Regencycore” aesthetic on social media, main character Daphne’s bedroom really goes next level with some Wes Anderson tweaks. Wlasenkov recovered the walls in bright red zebra-pattern wallpaper and outfitted both the foot bench and headboard in the same lush velvet fabric for symmetry. A playful, modern table lamp on one side of the bed balances out Daphne’s fluffy fan on the other.

Mad Men

This Emmy and Golden Globe-winning period drama set in the 1960s was credited for sparking a renewed love affair with the fashion of the era when it first came out in the mid-2000s. To make main character Don Draper’s kitchen more Wes Anderson-like, Angi erased the soulless oak-and-plaid decor and added bright yellow striped wallpaper, a happy floral curtain, and gleaming white cupboards. Draper’s hat also sits much nicer on the new dark butcher block counters.

Angi and Wlasenkov also worked together to create Wes Anderson versions of the Succession and Sex Education sets, both of which can be viewed in all their kitschy glory on Angi’s official site.

If this collection of TV set makeovers has you craving Anderson’s signature style in your own home, there are a few key things to keep in mind to recreate his signature look. Start with an element of symmetry, but keep it whimsical. Use a bold palette of three to five colors, playing around with saturated hues that make a statement while still complimenting each other. Add texture to your walls by adding paneling, even if its just on the lower half, and fill it in with intriguing colors. Create a carefully curated collection of beloved belongings you can artfully display around the room. With a little effort, you’ll feel like you’re on the set of one of your favorite Wes Anderson movies every day.

“I work from home, so I wanted to create something completely personal and comfortable,” the 21-year-old told Architectural Digest. “I brought in references from many decades and design eras, and I tried to meld them into something that feels not only cohesive but new. It wasn’t about following the rules or sticking to one aesthetic. I tried to approach it all with a lightheartedness and an open mind.”

The process began when Chamberlain bought the five-bedroom, seven-bathroom estate in June 2021 for $4.3 million. The 4,440-square-foot home was built in 1955 and had plenty of existing charm with high, open beam ceilings and cozy fireplaces. She then enlisted the design talents of Ashley Drost and Marie Trohman of Proem Studio to help her put her own spin on the space.

“It almost felt like a summer camp, so we leaned into that mood. We described it as Wet Hot American Summer meets Troop Beverly Hills. Emma said, ‘I love that idea, but I have no clue what you’re talking about,’ ” an amused Drost recalls.

Chamberlain also turned to the world wide web to help her settle on a vision (only natural for someone with more than 11.8 million followers on YouTube alone). “I’m a mood board type of girl. I scoured every corner on the internet, every weird, deep hole on Pinterest,” she says. “I find inspiration for the home everywhere, the same as fashion. It’s all one in my mind.”

The home’s color palette is muted and inviting. While the backdrop of the interior features lots of white and natural wood, the kitchen hosts a wash of calming green tones, and the bathroom has playful blue tiles splashed across the wall and floor. Drost and Trohman incorporated natural textures and materials like swaths of raw copper, cork ceiling treatments, and braided banana tree bark as wallpaper.

Quirky accents feel right at home for Chamberlain, who was once named “the funniest person on YouTube” by the New York Times. Among other things, the dining room chandelier is composed of a pair of oversized metal chains that end in glowing orbs, and there’s a custom cat bed carved out of a vintage TV console. All throughout the renovation process, the young starlet has been hard at work on her popular “Anything Goes” podcast, building her Chamberlain Coffee enterprise, and collaborating with high-profile fashion houses like Louis Vuitton and Cartier to promote her brand.

Ultimately, “the most talked-about teen influencer in the world” (according to The Atlantic) isn’t concerned about whether her followers or others dig her residential style. As she puts it, “I don’t really care if people don’t like it. I’m the one who lives here, so I have to love it. And I do.”

“I would like to share with you the first collection of images of my AI-based project called ‘As if nothing happened,’” the Istanbul-based artist said in an Instagram post. “Behind this project lies the question of ‘how would people look photo-realistically if some great events had not happened to them.’”

Using cutting-edge technology, Yesiltas, who is also a lawyer by day, took old photographs of ten famous musicians, actors, and icons and gave them crow’s feet and gray hair to imagine their 2022 appearance.

“When I started tinkering with technology, I saw what I could do and thought about what would make me the happiest,” he told Bored Panda. “I wanted to see some of the people I missed again in front of me, and that’s how this project emerged.”

His version of an un-spectacled John Lennon features the singer with a tangle of windblown silver hair and a full white beard. Lennon would have been 82 this year; he was only 40 when a crazed fan shot and killed him in 1980.

Heath Ledger, who would have been 43 this year, has a slightly pushed-back hairline and a few more creases around his mouth and eyes. The actor, who posthumously won the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his twisted portrayal of The Joker in the 2008 film The Dark Knight, died in 2008 at the age of 28 from what was deemed an accidental overdose.

Yesiltas’ iteration of Freddie Mercury adds streaks of gray to his bushy mustache. The lead singer of Queen would have been 76 this year; he died at age 45 from complications of AIDS.

His likeness of Michael Jackson not only envisions what the musical legend would have looked like at age 64 (he died in 2009 from being overmedicated), but also how he would have appeared without any plastic surgeries or the vitiligo that changed his skin coloring.

“The hardest part of the creative process for me is making the image feel ‘real’ to me,” Yesiltas explains. “The moment I like the most is when I think the image in front of me looks very realistic as if it was taken by a photographer.”

Other celebrities in his first series of photos included Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, Bruce Lee, Elvis Presley, and Tupac Shakur.

Far and above the rest of the portraits, the photographer garnered the most online criticism for his depiction of Princess Diana. Although still beautiful, reviewers thought Yesiltas gave her too many wrinkles for what would have been her current age of 61. “This could had been Princess Diana when she turned 70,” or “If Diana was hitting the meth pipe, maybe…” were among the comments on Instagram.

After asking for viewer feedback and suggestions, Yesiltas also responded to pleas for an aged Selena, Amy Winehouse, and Paul Walker.

As an artist, Yesiltas has been “imagining scenes and capturing memories for 19 years.” His photos have made it into many books, magazines, exhibitions, and websites over that time, earning him several awards in the process. More of his work can be found on his Instagram account.

Located in the town of Franklin, about 20 miles south of Nashville, Cyrus’ former home is set in a secluded rural area at the end of a private dirt road. Five bedrooms might not sound like much for such an expensive home, but the eight-year-old farmhouse measures an extremely generous 6,689 square feet and includes four full bathrooms and two half bathrooms. A massive barn-sized 30-foot-long living room takes up much of that real estate, featuring a double-height wood beam ceiling, built-in bookshelves, and a huge stacked stone raised hearth fireplace.

The style of the home is tailored to its Southern setting, with details like wide-plank rustic wood floors, shiplap interior wall paneling, tongue-and-groove wood ceilings, wainscoting, classic hexagonal bathroom tiles, and textural brick. A double-wide island with a snack bar takes center stage in the home’s country-style kitchen, complimented by two-tone cabinetry, a brick fireplace, and premium Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances. The main floor primary suite also boasts its own fireplace, and a clawfoot soaking tub tucked into a bright corner with views of the trees outside.

The other four bedrooms, a den, game room, and rooftop deck make up the rest of the home’s square footage. French doors in the living room open onto a palatial screened porch with yet another stacked stone fireplace, tile floors, and a swing suspended from the ceiling by ropes. This indoor/outdoor space leads out to an in-ground swimming pool and spa surrounded by a terrace and small putting green. A smaller, separate barn-style building could act as a guest house or recording studio. Best of all, the property enjoys lots of privacy thanks to its cul-de-sac location, and a buffer of forest on all sides.

Since the home never went on the market this time around, no new photos are available, but we do have the listing photos from when Cyrus purchased it in 2017. It’s possible she made some renovations since then that have boosted the property’s value. The sale is just the latest real estate deal for Cyrus, whose estimated net worth is around $200 million. Last year, she sold her Hidden Hills home for $7.2 million (the same neighborhood multiple Kardashians and Jenners currently call home). In 2020, she sold her $1.7 million Malibu home to Matthew Wilder, and before that, she sold a Toluca Lake, Los Angeles mansion to Texas oil heir Nats Getty and his wife, YouTuber Gigi Gorgeous.

Titled “Figures of Speech,” the exhibition is a reimagined iteration of Abloh’s first show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, featuring over 100 works by the late artist as curated by writer/critic Antwaun Sargent. Originally planned before the pandemic and Abloh’s death in 2021, the show is a carefully concocted mishmash of Abloh’s genius. Works of both fashion and design converge on an elevated, scene-stealing runway. An array of colorful sneakers marches across a table. Architectural sketches and fashion prototypes share space with a model of Chicago (Abloh’s hometown), including a proposed skyscraper he submitted for his master’s thesis in 2003.

While all this all might seem incongruous, the placing of Abloh’s extraordinary works is deliberate, and meant to express the artist’s work as a means to “[break] down hierarchies, especially within the creative world,” according to Sargent.

Sargent also explains that Abloh’s original goal for the exhibition was to re-conceptualize the show’s previous iterations from a more New York point of view, as the city “had special meaning for [Abloh], in the sense that it really was the place that he…became the artist that we have come to know.” One of the most significant ways the current Brooklyn exhibition has departed from its predecessors is its emphasis on Abloh’s many forays into architecture, including early sketches he completed while training to be an architect at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Appropriately enough, the show’s main attraction does reflect Abloh’s architectural bent, in the form of a full-sized house dubbed “Social Sculpture.” Built into the museum itself in order to fully integrate it with its surroundings (including the addition of new walls and existing columns), the display is eye-popping and dramatic, to say the least. According to Sargent, it showcases Abloh’s “spatial thinking as [both] an artist and designer.”

But like many of Abloh’s impressive art and design feats, Social Sculpture is so much more than just that. It’s a social commentary, “a representation of Black space, a living monument that holds the potential, through the exchange of ideas, to inspire the creation of more Black space,” as the Brooklyn Museum said in a statement.

This re-examination of Black space is exactly what makes the new exhibition so distinctive. The layout is dynamic and fluid, building relationships between disciplines as it simultaneously works to break down the barriers between them. And because Abloh himself had a hand in envisioning and conceptualizing the exhibition, as Sargent says, “‘[Figures of Speech]’ should be considered [Abloh’s] last living work…not at all a memorial…[but] a show by a living artist.”

“Figures of Speech” will be on display at the Brooklyn Museum through January 29th, 2023.

“I grew up in a ghetto. I grew up with hip hop. I watched legendary hip hop artists rap about Mercedes, so it was always a dream to own a Mercedes. For a lot of inner-city kids, owning a Mercedes is a symbol of progress and advancing out of struggle,” the artist said. “Now I’ve reached my goal and pushed even higher by re-imagining and creating my own vision of an AMG model.”

The charitable project called “The Flip” produced the unique “WILL.I.AMG” four-wheeler, a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S base mashed up with the Mercedes-AMG SLS and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the celebrity’s two other favorite models. The Black Eyed Peas-founder enlisted the help of West Coast Customs to make the modifications, which included giving it a G-Wagen’s boxy front end, replacing the four doors with two massive suicide doors, and converting to monoblock wheels with a collaboration logo in the center.

Will.i.am left the original interior and engine alone. “I didn’t touch the engine, because AMG really does make the best engines,” he shared. “The story of the founders of AMG truly inspires me and it is energizing to collaborate with like-minded people who also seek continuous improvement.”

The new logo, dubbed “BEAR WITNESS,” is a bear head with the Mercedes three-pointed star as a mouth. It’s also the major design focus of a limited-edition apparel and accessories line available on the company website.

In addition to an initial unveiling at the Formula Grand Prix in Miami, the WILL.I.AMG was also highlighted at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, along with a premiere of its own six-part documentary made by the entrepreneurial musician himself.

The original plan for the custom one-off was to auction it off, with the hopes of being able to fund “between 50 and 100 robotics programs, with 10 to 20 kids in each” in impoverished communities. Mercedes offered to buy the car instead, allowing all the money to go “The Flip” program, one of the many STEAM educational initiatives the artist supports through his i.am/Angel Foundation. Over the past decade, the organization has raised millions of dollars for the inclusion of courses on robotics, computer coding, information systems, computer-aided design, and art in underserved neighborhoods like will.i.am’s home town of Boyle Heights in Los Angeles

Mercedes is placing the WILL.I.AMG in its brand museum in Stuttgart, Germany. “The Flip” is just one of several joint efforts between the automaker and the singer-songwriter-rapper-record producer over the past year.

Taking Over Twitter

Musk says he doesn’t care about the economics of buying Twitter. As a prolific user of the site, the Tesla CEO claims the deal is all about championing free speech, though he also believes he can turn Twitter’s fortunes around by taking the company private. In April, Twitter reported disappointing quarterly revenue growth and profits, and its shares have been sinking for months, along with many others in the technology sector. User activity has slowed down, too.

In a pitch to investors, Musk said he wants to quintuple Twitter’s revenue and grow its users to 931 million by 2028, up from 217 million at the end of 2021. The Twitter board unanimously approved the sale at $54.20 a share, but the deal will still need to be approved by shareholders and complete a regulatory review, a process Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal says will take three to six months. In the meantime, Agrawal is already making big changes, firing top executives, freezing new hiring, and drastically cutting the company’s spending. Musk has suggested more layoffs in the future.

Musk’s Plans for the Social Media Giant

Musk has indicated that his first order of business would be to loosen Twitter’s content moderation policies, which he believes are too strict. He announced that he’ll overturn Donald Trump’s lifetime ban from the site and disallow permanent bans for anyone, noting that users who post illegal or destructive tweets might get a temporary suspension or have their tweet made invisible instead. He has also called for the addition of an edit button, wants high-profile users to pay a fee to use the site, hopes to eliminate the spam bots that plague the site, and plans to make Twitter’s algorithm open-source to “increase trust.”

Of course, the potential overturn of Trump’s ban is big news that has conservatives celebrating and others worrying about the potential for more violence-condoning tweets as we approach the 2024 presidential election. Trump has claimed he’ll remain at his own social network, Truth Social, but that seems unlikely. Truth Social has been plagued by problems from the jump, and Trump’s engagement there is low, especially compared to his Twitter following, which peaked at about 90 million.

For years, Musk held his own political beliefs close to his chest. The 50-year-old has disparaged Trump and President Joe Biden alike on Twitter. He has donated almost equally to both Democrats and Republicans while calling himself a “moderate” who is “socially liberal and fiscally conservative.” However, his recent tweets have sent another message: one told followers to “take the red pill,” a phrase used by white supremacists and anti-feminists to describe being radicalized into their worldview, and another called California’s COVID lockdown policies “fascist.” He also tweeted “pronouns suck,” an apparent dig at transgender people.

An Uncertain Future

Plenty of things could still go wrong in Musk’s Twitter takeover bid. His plan to fund the purchase depends partially on how Tesla shares are doing. They’ve plummeted about 20 percent since Musk first announced his plans to buy the platform and take it private. Musk is also being investigated by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission over an improperly filed form required when investors accumulate more than 5 percent of a company.

The terms of Musk’s deal to buy Twitter are another potential foil, as they require him to avoid disparaging the company or its representatives in tweets. Plus, Musk himself might just decide not to go through with it after all, paying the $1 billion fee to terminate the deal.

The collection will be released direct to consumers through both the Novogratz website ShopTheNovogratz and other retailers, representing Hilton’s first foray into interior design. Hilton says she was inspired to collaborate with the Novogratz (as they’re collectively known) after seeing the high-end look of the hotels and homes they’re known for decorating.

In addition to teaming up with celebrities like Hilton and Sarah Jessica Parker, The Novogratz are the stars of their own HGTV and Bravo television shows, including Home by Novogratz and 9 by Design, the latter of which also features their seven children. They first fell in love with design after purchasing and extensively renovating a New York brownstone in the late 1990s, and have since redesigned many spaces around the world. They opened their first furniture store selling their namesake collection in Los Angeles last year, and have released two books, Home by Novogratz and Novogratz Design Fix.

“Shot Sage Blue Marilyn” is being offered up by the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation, a brother-sister collaboration who founded a now-famous fine art gallery in Zurich in 1977. According to Artnet, the siblings bought the painting in the 1980s from publishing magnate S.I. Newhouse, making them only the fourth owners of the piece.

Warhol made the piece in 1964, two years after the actress’ tragic death. Using an original publicity still of Monroe for Henry Hathaway’s 1953 film Niagara, the artist painted her in surreal colors to invent art that is “now more famous than the photograph,” according to Georg Frei, Chairman of the Board for the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation. He says the power of the piece lays in its ability to bear witness to her “undiminished visual power.”

“The spectacular portrait isolates the person and the star: Marilyn the woman is gone; the terrible circumstances of her life and death are forgotten. All that remains is the enigmatic smile that links her to another mysterious smile of a distinguished lady, the Mona Lisa.”

Part of the screen print’s fame and its intriguing name come from a madcap incident that occurred in Warhol’s New York City studio the Factory in late 1964. A performance artist named Dorothy Podber waltzed into the space with her Great Dane, Carmen Miranda, and after spotting a stack of four of Warhol’s Marilyn canvases leaning against the wall, she asked if she could shoot them. While the artist assumed she meant she wanted to photograph them, Podber pulled a pistol out of her handbag and fired a bullet at the paintings, hitting Marilyn right between the eyes, according to witnesses. Warhol banned her from the Factory for this “art happening” and repaired the damage, but the four different colored prints were known as the “Shot Marilyns” from then on.

With such an outrageous background, it’s no surprise that the painting is estimated to go for upwards of $200 million when it reaches the auction block during Christie’s Marquee Week in May. A price tag that high would smash multiple records:

• It would be the most money paid at auction for an Andy Warhol piece. The current record is $104.5 million for his “Car Crash (Double Disaster)” in 2013.

• It would be the most expensive 20th-century painting sold at auction. Pablo Picasso’s “Les Femmes d’Alger” (Version O) from 1955 sold for $179.4 million in 2015.

• It would be the largest philanthropic auction since the sale of the Peggy and David Rockefeller collection in 2018.

• It would be the second highest price ever paid for a single painting at auction. The top honor remains with Leonardo da Vinci’s “Salvator Mundi,” which earned over $450 million in 2017.

Christie’s is effusive in their praise of the Shot Sage Blue Marilyn as a cultural landmark, explaining why it deserves a place among other record-breaking artistic masterpieces. “The most significant 20th-century painting to come to auction in a generation, Andy Warhol’s Marilyn is the absolute pinnacle of American Pop and the promise of the American Dream encapsulating optimism, fragility, celebrity, and iconography all at once,” said Alex Rotter, Christie’s Chairman of 20th and 21st Century Art. “The painting transcends the genre of portraiture in America, superseding 20th-century art and culture. … Warhol’s Marilyn is categorically one of the greatest paintings of all time.”

All proceeds of the sale will benefit the Thomas and Doris Ammann foundation, which supports children’s health and education systems.

He often pairs traditional materials and techniques with modern innovations, developing a body of work that “empowers and transforms communities through the process of architecture.” Even more importantly, Kéré’s work is designed to serve those who will use it with the utmost respect and consideration.

“I am hoping to change the paradigm, push people to dream and undergo risk,” Kéré says. “It is not because you are rich that you should waste material. It is not because you are poor that you should not try to create quality. Everyone deserves quality, everyone deserves luxury, and everyone deserves comfort. We are interlinked and concerns in climate, democracy, and scarcity are concerns for us all.”

Among Kéré’s most celebrated works are a stunning sculptural timber pavilion called “Xylem” at the Tippet Rise Art Center in Montana and the 2017 Serpentine Pavilion in London, which mimics the shape of a tree with an indigo-blue light steel framed trunk and a timber brise soleil canopy sheltered by clear polycarbonate.

But just as notable are the structures he has built in Africa, including the Gando Primary School in Burkina Faso and the Benin National Assembly. These structures are tailored specifically to the local climate, material availability, traditions, and skills. They’re infused with the regional architectural vernacular and thus feel well-suited to their environments, but they certainly aren’t lacking for decorative flourishes or comforts.

“Francis Kéré’s work is, by its essence and its presence, the fruit of its circumstances,” reads the Pritzker Prize jury statement. “In a world where architects are building projects in the most diverse contexts – not without controversies – Kéré contributes to the debate by incorporating local, national, regional, and global dimensions in a very personal balance of grass roots experience, academic quality, low tech, high tech, and truly sophisticated multiculturalism. His simultaneously local and global perspective goes well beyond aesthetics and good intentions, allowing him to integrate the traditional with the contemporary.”

Drawing inspiration from the simple, one-room structures he grew up using in Burkina Faso, Kéré aims to create spaces imbued with quiet dignity. He has devoted much of his career to designing primary, secondary, and postsecondary educational facilities as well as medical facilities, therefore stabilizing the future of the communities where they’re built.

Sustainability is another major factor in Kéré’s work. Addressing unsustainable patterns of production and consumption, the architect, educator, and social activist considers factors like potential reuse of the building materials in the future, and the use of indigenous clay to add thermal mass to his structures, thereby helping them retain cooler air inside naturally. This kind of passive cooling is essential to maintaining the comfort and low operating costs of Kéré’s built works in Africa.

“Francis Kéré is pioneering architecture – sustainable to the Earth and its inhabitants – in lands of extreme scarcity,” said Thomas Pritzker, chairman of the Hyatt Foundation. “He is equally architect and servant, improving the lives and experiences of countless citizens in a region of the world that is at times forgotten. Through buildings that demonstrate beauty, modesty, boldness, and invention, and by the integrity of his architecture and geste, Kéré gracefully upholds the mission of this Prize.”
