Floating Candles

The web measures an incredible 200 inches across at the bottom, and it comes with both a 50-inch light up spider and a bunch of stretchy cobwebs to add to the atmosphere.

Groundbreaker Zombie with Sound and Flashing Lights

The undead decor features a head with long gray hair, green-tinged skin, and red flashing eyes, as well as two arms to make it look like it’s crawling out of the grave.

Rotted-looking black gauze is a great, inexpensive way to add a whole lot of creep factor to your decor, and it’s easy to hang. This pack from Amazon comes with five woven black cloths you can drape and cut to your liking.

Life-size decapitated heads, horrifying Demogorgons, and intricately carved jack-o-lanterns are among the amazing Halloween decorations celebrities are turning out this year. If you need a little inspiration for your own creepy display, these Instagram posts by the Kardashians, Heidi Klum, Snooki, and others are sure to spur some appropriately blood-curdling ideas.

Spiders, Skeletons, and More by the Kardashians

Whether you love them or wish you heard less about them, you have to admit the Kardashian-Jenner family crushes Halloween decor every year. Kourtney, proclaiming herself “Queen of Halloween,” shared a series of photos of her Halloween 2021 dining room decor, which is clearly skeleton-themed. Metallic skulls, specimen jars, and twinkling orange lights are mixed in with dried flowers and white candles. The same enormous 12-foot-tall plastic skeletons that have appeared in Kourtney’s yard in previous years also showed up to flank a garden gate this time around.

Kylie Jenner hosted a Nightmare on Elm Street launch party with her family for her new Kylie Cosmetics collection, featuring a street sign that reads “Elm Street,” stacks of old TVs playing the old horror classic, bloody candles, dripping moss, and eerie red lights. Kourtney’s eldest son Mason dressed up as Freddie Krueger for the event. Photos and videos from the dinner appeared in mom Kris Jenner’s Instagram stories (via Life & Style Magazine).

Kylie also shared bits and pieces of her home Halloween decor, including the same two witches she shared last year, a seasonal candle, and some cute cupcakes.

Last year, Kim Kardashian posted a characteristically minimalist display for Halloween: nothing but a pile of small white pumpkins against a white backdrop.

Dax Shepard’s Seriously Creepy Decapitated Head

“Feel so #blessed to have a rubber replica of my head come Halloween,” wrote Dax Shepard on Instagram. Why does he have this replica? Unclear, but it’s definitely effective as a shockingly realistic (and creepy) addition to a group of pumpkins on his stoop. Reactions were decidedly mixed, with many commenters loving the outrageous decor, and others not so into it. “Can’t stand this,” commented Kirby Howell Baptiste, who co-starred with Shepard’s wife Kristen Bell on The Good Place.

Martha Stewart’s Work of Jack-o-Lantern Art

Crafting goddess Martha Stewart shared a photo of a majestic jack-o-lantern carved with what appears to be her own likeness as a fortune teller. In the caption, Stewart shared that the image is her very first non-fungible token, the first of many she’ll be personally curating and launching on her new digital boutique “FRESH Mint.” The pumpkin is awesome, but her fans were clearly confused about what NFTs actually are (here’s a quick primer, if you’re also scratching your head).

Kyle Richards Featuring Michael Myers

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards, who also starred in the original Halloween movie as a child, gave her front porch a creepy makeover to promote the latest film in the franchise, Halloween Kills. Moody red and blue lights and jack-o-lanterns set the scene, but it’s the life-size model of Michael Myers that really puts this front porch decor over the edge.

Heidi Klum Never Lets Us Down

Everyone knows Heidi Klum is the real queen of Halloween — at least when it comes to her costumes, which seem to get more elaborate every year. Along with flashbacks of previous years’ costume shenanigans, Klum shared this peek at her 2021 decor, featuring two tombstones for herself and husband Tom Kaulitz.

Snooki Shows Off JWoww’s Terrifying Demogorgon

“Universal Studios or @jwoww’s house?” Snooki wrote on Instagram. Yeah, that life-size Demogorgon is actually hanging out at the home of Jenni Farley, better known as Snooki’s Jersey Shore costar JWoww, and it’s one of the coolest decorations we’ve ever seen.

The post How Celebrities are Decorating Their Homes for Halloween 2021 first appeared on Dornob.

It’s October, and you know what that means! Time to decorate your house like it’s a nightmarish haunted asylum…or maybe just a slightly spooky stop for tiny trick-or-treaters. Whatever your Halloween decorating style, Amazon has what you’re looking for. If you’re trying to shop a little more ethically while taking advantage of the world’s largest online marketplace, look for biodegradable paper decorations and items durable enough to use year after year.

Have you been feeling absolutely fearful about the possibility of Halloween’s cancellation this year? Tremble not! Regardless of whether you’re safely able to hold or attend any parties, you can still partake in the horrendous holiday by creating your own perfectly terrifying Halloween ambiance at home.

Hot tip: if trick or treating the usual way doesn’t feel quite right this year, consider putting a bell in your yard and shooting pre-bagged candy out to tiny goblins, ghouls, and witches through a painted PVC pipe or slide of some sort. You’ll still get the pleasure of seeing all the costumes while remaining 12 or more feet away.

Oriental Trading has a set of three flameless metal luminaries with cut-outs that read “ENTER IF YOU DARE” when placed side-by-side. Just add your own battery-powered flameless candles for a safe but spooky flickering effect that’s perfect for the yard.

If you’re a fan of Disney’s “Haunted Mansion” ride, this will give you a similar effect, albeit a bit scarier. If you don’t feel like spending money on the DVD, there are also some free loop-able options on YouTube.

Things might look a little different this Halloween as COVID-19 continues to plague the country, but one New York homeowner is making sure it that won’t be a holiday to forget.

David Moomaw of East Aurora decided to take on the role of Dr. Frankenstein this year, giving life to a monstrous robotic spider that descends a gigantic web from its perch on the third story of his home, all the way down to the lawn. After unveiling his disturbing delight to town residents on September 30th, news of the colossal creation quickly spread around the globe via TikTok. The original post has already garnered 10.4 million views.

Moomaw, a mechanical engineer and retired toy designer for Fisher-Price, constructed his eight-legged fright using an inflatable spider and an electric motor. The entire creature spans roughly 10 feet in diameter and dangles 35 feet off the ground from a metal crane attached to the roof of his home’s front porch. The legs have been rigged to move independently, too, providing an eerily realistic vision of a leviathan stalking its prey. The entire journey takes about 30 seconds from beginning to end, before the beast winds back up to start all over again.

The designer’s pieced-together behemoth is almost completely homemade. He sewed the fabric body, painted it, and engineered the pulleys and wires that facilitate its movement. He also built the crane that holds up the creepy critter, and a few baby spiders to drop down behind it. Moomaw even strategically placed 1,500-watt lights under his green giant. “Everything glows in the dark,” he said in an interview with the East Aurora Advertiser.

“It’s his COVID project,” says his wife, Ellen. Moomaw responds that “I think she’s a little nervous about what I’ll come up with next now that I’m retired. I don’t handle boredom well.”

That boredom has clearly translated into both a trick and a treat for the surrounding inhabitants. A neighbor who posted photos on Twitter reports that local children are begging to visit the spectacle every night. Other parents with kids just drive by, honking their approval and flashing thumbs up signs.

Moomaw plans to operate his sneaky, spooky spider every afternoon through Halloween.

Another East Aurora neighbor, Joe Dubois, has also decked out his yard with ghoulish fiends, including an enormous (albeit stationary) tarantula. His inspiration probably echoes Moomaw’s thoughts. “So much has been taken away from kids already this year,” Dubois told The Examiner. “I really want them to have a fun Halloween.”

This spider sensation also joins the ranks of other viral Halloween trends this year, like a giant 12-foot-tall skeleton sold by Home Depot that became a social media hit when a TikTok video surfaced in September of one strapped to the top of a Mini Cooper with the caption “never send an emo on an errand.” Since then, the oversized bones have been showing up in scary scenes all over the internet.

There are two kinds of people in the world: those who tenaciously cling to the dregs of summer, and those break out their bins of Halloween decor at the first hint of a cool breeze. If you’re in the latter group, it’s time to get excited, because Pottery Barn just dropped their new Halloween collection.

The items run the gamut between wholesome fall embellishments like wicker pumpkins and all the spooks, skeletons, and spiders you need for a full house of themed decor. They’re split into three categories: the Halloween Shop, the Harvest Shop, and Fall Front Door Decorating. If you’re looking to move beyond the plastic, single-use kind of stuff typically found in the holiday aisles of big-box stores, Pottery Barn’s 2020 Halloween goods definitely represent an elevation in both quality and style, just like always.

Some of them are even worthy of year-round display. The Buffalo Check table throw and table runner, for instance, serve as a complementary backdrop for additional holiday-specific items, but can also transition into winter with ease. The Booker Hurricanes candle holders look appropriately eerie next to antiqued mosaic glass pumpkins or handmade raven statues, but aren’t too macabre to earn a permanent home on the mantel, either.

Spookier items include the cute Spider Candlestick in matte black aluminum, Haunted House Placemats made of cork, a doormat covered in glowing eyes, and a brass skull votive holder.

One standout item, the Pre-Lit Black Glitter Branches with Bats, makes a big impact when stuck into a planter by the front door. The product description reads: “Flying bats set a perfectly eerie tone at Halloween festivities. Place this Lit German Glitter Bundle in one of our galvanized vases (sold separately) for an easy and fun seasonal touch.”

There’s a whole series of skeleton-themed tableware like a punch bowl, cake stand, wine glasses, and what has to be the sturdiest skeleton hand bar tool set you’ll ever find. Need a creepy carafe? A condiment server? There’s no shortage of spine-tingling, guest-impressing items for your party, which we’re guessing will probably be held outdoors and involve layering face masks under your costumes this year.

Witchy wall art, stately gray candles, tombstone serving platters, and ghost-shaped mugs are among the other items rounding off the collection. And if you love the look of carved pumpkins but would prefer to avoid the mess, the Metal Jack O’Lantern Candle Holders are a great way to go, ranging in size from a mini 6.5 inches to a larger 14-inch diameter.

Whether COVID-19 effectively cancels trick-or-treating and other fun aspects of Halloween probably depends on where you live and your personal risk tolerance. But even if the usual festivities are toned down, decorating for holidays and safely participating in seasonal events might help us all get through this extraordinarily long, strange year. And, hey, if Halloween isn’t your thing, Christmas decorations will be on the shelves in no time flat.

Perhaps one of these ghastly design themes will be just what you need to step up your Halloween game and create a memorable vignette your party guests won’t be forgetting any time soon.

A Modern Glam Mantel

Some branches from the outdoors, a few eye-catching decorative elements, and a restrained color palette make this mantel by Modern Glam an elegant way to celebrate the season. Mix natural materials and cozy textures with graphic spooky shapes and objects like a ceramic crow sculpture from Pottery Barn, a moon phase lamp from Urban Outfitters, black pumpkins from Ballard Designs, and a spider cut-out garland from Any Occasion Banners on Etsy.

Here’s a tip from Ashley at Modern Glam:

“One of my favorite things to do is to take the decorations that I already have and try and use them in a new way. Something I haven’t ever tried before. This is a challenge, but a fun and creative one! So, take what you have and rather than put it out each year in the same spot, try something new! Rearrange, repurpose, and reinvent the items you already own. And mix in items that aren’t necessarily for the holiday. For this neutral Halloween mantel, I repurposed my vintage champagne bucket to hold the tree branches. I love the antique spin it gives this vignette.”

A Witchy Apothecary

Spells, specimens, and curious collections — this witchy Halloween decor theme is easy to cobble up using many items you already have. Got an old witch costume you’re not wearing this year? Thread some clear fishing line through the tip of the hat and hang it from the ceiling for an eerie floating effect. A wooden broom propped in the corner makes a big impact, too. But of course, the star of the show is a display of mysterious glass vessels filled with who knows what.

This style works particularly well in homes with lots of antique and vintage elements, so pull out your weathered wooden trunks, dusty old books, possibly haunted mirrors, and dried roses. You can easily reuse glass bottles straight from your recycling bin, fill them with props and colored liquids or gelatin, and cap them off with wax. If you want to invest in pieces you can use year-round, check out Pottery Barn’s collection of clear glass apothecary jars.

You don’t have to be an artist or a calligrapher to pull off those custom labels, either. You can find printable designs all over the internet, like these ones by Lia Griffith, which read “toadstool clippings,” “feathers of the crow,” “snake venom,” and more. A framed “Salem Apothecary” sign by AllChristmas on Etsy is a nice touch, as are black bat cutouts for the wall by TheVinylTree, also on Etsy.

A Haunting Table

Set the table for a feast fit all your favorite ghouls and goblins — and all without a single paper plate in sight! Many of your favorite home decor retailers have items for sale that will send a chill down the spines of your guests, and some of them are perfectly appropriate to use year-round, too.

Matte black flatware from West Elm takes on a sinister look when it’s surrounded by creepy decor, but it makes for a beautifully minimalist table otherwise. Magnolia’s simple black taper holders won’t spook anyone too much when they’re used with white candles, but with a set of black tapers like these from Colonial Candle, they’re just right for a touch of fright.

If you’re in the mood to splurge on your favorite holiday, Williams Sonoma also has some gorgeous pieces for your Halloween party, like a cauldron-shaped serving bowl and a skull-topped decanter.

The post Step Up Your Halloween Game With These Spooky Decor Pieces first appeared on Dornob.

Apparitions are usually pretty tough to explain to those around you, but in the case of the Ghost Ship, it’s something everyone looking at Philadelphia’s Ben Franklin Bridge can witness. The temporary art installation is stationed there for public viewing from now until the first week in November.

Aligning perfectly with the month associated with all things ghastly, the Ghost Ship sits in the river between Race Street Pier and Pier 12 and is visible every Wednesday through Sunday night. The illusion is created with the help of mist fountains anchored beneath the surface of the water. The hazy sails are brought to life using lighting projected from a nearby platform.

Designers of the art installation intentionally set it up so that the ship’s port side would be visible from Race Street Pier, while its bow can be seen from the nearby Columbus Boulevard. For added folly, a pop-up Ghost Ship beer garden sits on the waterfront on evenings when the ship appears.

It’s not a hallucination caused by beer goggles, though. Instead, a lot of planning and preparation went into bringing the piece to the river. It’s the first result of the Delaware River Waterfront Corp.’s new Waterfront Arts Program, which aims to explore the history and diversity of the area through works of art. With this in mind, organizers opened up a call for exhibitions that represented that goal.

“We’ve always had cultural events like fireworks displays at the waterfront,” says DRWC President Joe Forkin. “So we started to think about how art complements the waterfront and how it can bring new audiences here.” The council debated, scrutinized, and brainstormed ideas until they agreed to focus on past and present communities affected by the Delaware River as a theme for the works.

The exhibition call was answered by Ryan Strand Greenberg, a public art curator and photographer from the area. Having visited an inspirational light display in Amsterdam with a similar theme, Greenberg reached out to Biangle Studio (based in Estonia), who agreed to modify their original work to represent the history of migration in the area during the 18th century — when the river was used to carry products like cocoa beans and crude oil, as well as both free and enslaved people.

“This particular time period was really important to the city’s development,” Greenberg explains. “It contributed to the social fabric of Philadelphia.”

The team studied ships from the target era until they decided on the final model. They then hired local engineering firm Pennoni to obtain permits, anchor the lighting, install a submersible power cable in the river itself, and mount lights on nearby properties.

“It was a pretty neat project for us, because this is the kind of project that our guys don’t get to work on every day,” says David DeLizza, President and CEO of Pennoni.

The installation will be visible from 7 to 10 PM on all the aforementioned evenings, and onlookers can even enjoy a self-guided tour via smartphone on SoundCloud, as accessed through the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation’s official website.

The post New “Ghost Ship” Installation Haunts Philadelphia’s Ben Franklin Bridge first appeared on Dornob.

If you’re living in the present, your mind is probably running laps around leisurely days at the pool and summer barbecues. While you’re busy taking in the moment, mega-retailer Target is well ahead of the game in planning your fall decor and holiday parties. Halloween decorations have already popped up in the store’s seasonal aisles, with the “Hyde and Eek! Boutique” displaying the pumpkins and witches we don’t normally see until the pencils and notebooks from the back-to-school rush are long gone.

Target may have picked up on the holiday vibe early, but so far it appears that its offerings vary greatly depending on location. Luckily, all the creepy, cute, and costumey items that are available in stores are also available for pre-order online. That means that even if you don’t have a Target nearby (is that possible anymore?), you can still order your Halloween decor now and cross it off your fall to-do list. Shipments are expected to begin September 8th, which still gives you plenty of time to unpack and set everything up before the holiday crunch arrives.

Not only is the collection early to market, but it’s also vast, providing seemingly endless options for the 2019 Halloween season. In fact, the range of items might be the most newsworthy part of this story, since it’s not entirely uncommon to see some spotty Halloween collections popping up here and there in the retail world.

First there’s the Pumpkin Parlor Decor section, which is stuffed with orange and black pumpkins and plush creatures. Then we have the Pumpkin Parlor Party section, which offers all the table figurines and serving pieces your holiday party could ever need. The Ghoulish Garden Decor is available to haunt your space with artificial biting plants and spooky terrariums. Alternatively, you can crank up the nightclub vibe with the Moonlight Bash and Party decor, complete with a skeleton DJ and tableware and, of course, neon lights.

Classic styles are always en vogue, too, so Target curated their Harvest Decor set with traditional wreaths and pumpkin decorations you can keep out from the first days of fall all the way through Thanksgiving.

The question of whether it’s a “good” move to roll out Halloween in July is subjective. After all, many of the presale items are showing as sold out even though they aren’t even being released until the end of August. That shows both a demand and a profit margin so it seems like a win-win, except for those who feel late to the game trying to buy a sold out item four months in advance of the holiday.

While some consumers scoff at what might appear to be an effort to consistently get a jump on the competition by bringing out seasonal items well in advance of the actual holiday, it appears that most people are embracing the early release. Perhaps they are perpetual goblin and ghoul-seekers happy to have an option other than Amazon to track down All Hallow’s Eve decor during the off-season. Maybe they don’t see Halloween as a season, but as a lifestyle. One thing is for sure, they are willing and eager to shop for Halloween in July while the selection is good and the days are still long.

Where can you go to experience the world’s longest utterly terrifying indoor haunted house? According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the answer to that question is the Factory of Terror: a seasonal attraction located inside a 160,000-square-foot abandoned aluminum foundry in the city of Canton, Ohio.

In fact, the Factory of Terror has earned that title on three separate occasions — and when they say it’s long, they mean you’ll be passing through over a mile of horrors stretched out among five full-length attractions: “1300 Lost Souls,” “Industrial Nightmare,” “Backwoods Hollow,” “Massacre on Mahoning,” and “The House of Nightmares.”

That’s an amazing 3,318 feet of hallways, mazes, darkened chambers, and creepy rooms full of ghosts, ghouls, zombies, psycho killers, and creatures worthy of their own horror movies. The factory was first built in 2002, but its owners, brothers John, Rich Jr, and Matt Eslich, have expanded it several times since then. Every year, they add a few more feet to keep a firm grip on the record, which had to be verified with the help of a nonstop single-take video, a professional surveyor, local fire department officials, a photographer, a reporter, and even a notary to corroborate all of the witnesses’ accounts.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0zJcnFYGj0

Even those of us located too far away to experience this attraction in person can get thoroughly spooked watching the series of videos that show off what guests have in store when they enter. Too scared to walk through the house when the lights are off? Factory of Terror lets private parties book a “Lights ON Tour” to check out all the facility’s incredible props, sets, and details without the scares. You can also get a look at some of it in a series of behind-the-scenes videos available on the official YouTube channel.

“Halfway through the heart-pounding tour, patrons can take a breather and enjoy concessions with their friends at the ‘Monster Midway.’ Here, guests can also have some fun with the plethora of photo-ops. Over the years, this once quick pass-through area has emerged into a fun-filled gathering place full of activities. It also allows timid patrons time to calm down, regroup, and gather their courage to continue on.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsjZdf0mX_0

“Not only do these five attractions have some of the most highly detailed and elaborate sets in the haunt industry, [but] they are [also] paired with an incredibly talented team of scare-actors and specialty performers. The Factory of Terror employs over 130 actors and staff, in addition to more than 500 of the industry’s scariest monsters and high tech animatronics. The Factory of Terror has committed itself to keeping up with current product developments in the industry as well as the trends of the culture, both of which are reflected in the guests’ experience.”

The attraction is only up for 18 days every year, yet it draws more than 20,000 people from Ohio and surrounding states. Its closest competitor, the Cutting Edge Haunted House, is all the way in Texas. The facility is kept intact year after year, but that doesn’t mean it’s closed down altogether in the off-season. There are separate dedicated spaces for an axe throwing facility, escape games, and an events center.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzzduYSlWJg

If you’re still looking for a scare once Halloween is over and Christmas decor has taken over the shelves of your local stores, have no fear: the Factory of Terror has a little something special planned for the holiday season, too. In 2017, the factory brought the mythical tale of Krampus to life, and the horned half-goat half-demon from Central European folklore brought evil elves, abominable snowmen, and other ghastly creatures along with him. Kids who have been good all year might receive gifts from Santa Claus, but according to the legend, Krampus comes to punish those who have misbehaved…

The post Factory of Terror: Inside the World’s Largest Indoor Haunted House first appeared on Dornob.

“Even for the skeptics who still walk amongst us we urge absolute caution and can only advise that ‘just in case’ for the maximum protection possible this really could be a lifesaving purchase,” says Tiger Log Cabins, a UK-based company. “Not only is the building strong and secure enough to stop any zombie from getting inside, but even zombie invaders were to breach the boundaries of your land, the design is intelligent enough to give you fantastic and safe vantage points to use any artillery you have whether it’s light or dark outside.”

The cabin measures 44 by 30 feet and a second level in one area, so it’s got a surprising amount of square footage. That means you don’t have to force your friends and family to duke it out in a battle to the death in order to win a spot in your zombie-hunting pod.

They’re serious enough about this unique prefab survivalist cabin to offer a 10-year anti-zombie guarantee, but the company notes, “We require medical evidence of the presence of a real zombie should you wish to claim.”

The post Never Worry About Zombies Again with This Prefab Survivalist Cabin first appeared on Dornob.

Most people go light on decor for Halloween – after all, you have to store all of the stuff you use to decorate during the rest of the year, right? Well, some folks simply made do with the macabre on a more permanent basis by buying furniture objects to use beyond the seasonal festivities.

These couch coffins are all the more strange for being so finely styled – elegant sofa legs support the casket frame and plush padding inside comes variety of patterns and colors. Oh and yes, these are entirely real used coffins recycled with hard-to-obtain permission and complete with authentic bio-hazard warning labels.

An apparently modest man of mystery (listed by first name only on his gallery website), Bryan has taken coffin-themed object design to a darkly humorous extreme. He has crafted everything from miniature coffin cuff links to custom casket desks, kitchen tables and even complete an entire coffin kitchen renovation containing coffin-shaped tables, islands and cabinets.

The post 10 Coffin Furniture Ideas: Caskets Couches to Death Desks first appeared on Dornob.
