The designers behind Bundle Beds have removed all the anguish and made it incredibly easy to welcome house guests — or to take a comfy bed with you on your own travel adventures.

One Bundle Bed weighs just 14 pounds, so it’s quite easy to lug around. It includes a comfortable self-inflating mattress (good-bye foot pumps), a warm comforter and cover, a pillow and pillowcase, and a soft jersey cotton fitted sheet.

The bed rolls up easily into a handy carrying roll, and when it’s unrolled and ready for use, it measures six-foot-three-inches long by two-feet wide.

The designers recommend storing your Bundle Bed in its unrolled state so it’s easier to inflate it the next time you need it. Keep it filled with air and in a dry place, like under a bed or behind a sofa. “Because the mattress foam tends to ‘remember’ the shape it holds most often, your mattress will self-inflate faster if it is stored unrolled,” they explain.

While a Bundle Bed is perfect for house guests and your kids’ sleepovers, it can also be toted to a music festival or taken on a hardcore camping trip. Tough terrain? No problem. The bed will even work well on a sandy beach, as the cover is water-resistant, and you can take the whole thing apart to wash it if necessary. Of course, the company does recommend laying a ground cloth under the bed if you’re not going to be sleeping inside a tent. With any luck, this will help prevent sharp rocks or branches from puncturing your Bundle Bed.

If you come from a family of campers, you’ll be happy to know you can purchase different-colored beds so there are no mix-ups. There’s a gray model with teal straps and a matching teal duvet cover, a gray one with orange straps and duvet cover, and a navy bed with yellow straps and duvet cover. Every one of these colorways comes with a white and navy-striped pillowcase.

Each bed is a single, but if you want to snuggle up with a special someone, you can always pull two together using the special Bundle Bed fitted sheet.

Companionship of a different kind was reported in a message to Bundle Beds HQ. New parent Eric explained that his infant son was not sleeping well — which was leaving his wife feeling absolutely exhausted. “I unfurled the bed next to him, and between sleep and feeds every few hours, got my wife that full night’s sleep whilst also getting some myself. Floating on an actual cloud might theoretically offer the best sleep any of us have ever had, but in the real world, a floating mattress that can be installed literally anywhere you imagine will do nicely. The round ‘Floating Bed’ system melds traditional frame-supported mattresses with hammocks to create some of the dreamiest sleep scenarios this side of the sound barrier, and the photos will have you drifting off to daydreams about suspending them over swimming pools, hanging them from trees and creating swanky festival setups. Although sleeping in your car is never an activity that you look forward to, there are plenty of perfectly valid reasons that you might someday have to. Driving cross-country and being too short of funds for hotels, pulling over for a quick power-nap so you don’t endanger other drivers’ lives, or just vacating the house for an evening courtesy of a roommate spat – we’ve all been there.

The Inflatable Car Mattress is meant to make these annoying little moments in life just a bit more bearable. When deflated it takes up hardly any room at all, but when inflated it provides a reasonably comfy-looking sleeping space wider than just the car seat itself.

The mattress is meant to fit over the top of your vehicle’s back seat. What could be nicer than snuggling up to your spouse or partner, arms around each other, while you both drift off to sleep? Well, it’s nice for the first few minutes, anyway, until someone’s hand goes numb and you both have to shift around and get comfortable again.

The Cuddle Mattress from designer Mehdi Mojtabavi lets couples snuggle as close as they want to all night long. Instead of the typical one-piece construction, the Cuddle Mattress is composed of a large block of foam in the middle for the body, then wide strips of foam at the top and bottom. These strips allow sleepers to slip their arms under one another without the threat of numb extremities.

There are also strips at the bottom of the mattress, allowing the occupants of the bed to slip their toes down into the squishy softness of the mattress. The mattress also works for single people, of course, by allowing them to sleep comfortably in whatever position works best. Side-sleepers will especially appreciate this aspect of the design.

Mojtabavi was inspired to take his award-winning design to the next level and begin manufacturing it for sale after hearing from someone who had undergone several shoulder surgeries. The person who wrote to Mojtabavi thought the mattress would be able to help with more comfortable sleep by taking the pressure off of the sore shoulder.

Snuggling is an essential if rarely-discussed component of a comfortable sleeping arrangement for many (pairs of) people, usually aided indirectly by soft mattresses and/or strategic sheet and pillow usage.

A firm, flat mattress just isn’t that great for cuddling on its own, failing to make way for all of the contours of the human body. No matter what you do, you end up with an arm falling asleep, or all too aware of somebody else’s bony limb beneath you.

This bed-topping design by Mehdi Mojtabvi proposes a different-but-parallel approach, turning a single-piece cushioned support into multiple modules. The resulting strips create optional gaps into which an arm, leg, foot or hand can comfortably slip in order to wrap around a loved one (or perhaps survive being crushed by an over-snuggling canine best friend).

The ergonomic design is also intended to help keep the spine aligned in a natural position for healthier sleep.

As for finding cozy positions, nothing is mandated by the layout in particular – each fold can flex open or closed depending on usage, leaving it up to individuals (or pairs) to make use of it as they will. That means it’ll fit just about anybody, which is a big plus.

Some of us have a tough time making the bed in the morning (or perhaps even getting out of it). Coming home at night to messy sheets and strewn pillows, though, is no fun either. This all-in-one solution zips up like a sleeping bag, but has the luxury curves of a contemporary couch or sleeper sofa.

When zipped up, the object works just as well for casual seating – a neat space-saving trick for small bedroom or studio apartment spaces. Opened out, the bright interior color contrasts well with a basic black, white or gray exterior lining.

Want to get warm in a hurry? Simply zip up the exterior around you and snuggle in. The top layer can be folded out in part or in whole, make it easy to slip into for either one or two people.

Unfortunately, the would-be manufacturer has since gone out of business. Perhaps this can be attributed to some of the practical difficulties one could encounter with such a fully-integrated system. For instance, cleaning this furniture could be a bit tricky, even with the removable comforter portion. Like air mattresses and water beds, maybe the concept just turned out to be neater than expectations for the execution could live up to.

From childhood, we know that beds are supposed to be for sleeping … but that bouncing up and down on them can be much more fun (perhaps in part because it is so strictly forbidden). So what does that look like when you freeze time by taking a photograph of this frowned-upon activity? That is what this short series of pictures seeks to show.

White walls, a bare mattress and a simple white sheet-and-pillow set make a fine foil for these photos – the poses of people in mid-bounce or perhaps mid-float become the focus, as well as the state of dishevelment in which the sheets and pillows end up in each shot.

Titled Dreamers, this small photo shoot by a series of German students is also, indirectly, a good reminder that a complex bed is no better than a minimalist one when you consider that the person sleeping (or playing) in it is the point of its design in the first place.

The concept is fairly simple, but to pull something off with end results that are as beautiful as this requires no small amount of talent and skill. You might swear that they’ve been Photoshopped, but they haven’t, says the designer. What you see is what was captured by the camera: a frozen split-second in time when someone seems to be levitating, going against what we know about gravity and the human body.

The results are beautiful, and one would hope that the artist continues with similar projects and themes in the future.
