Sonic toothbrushes may seem like overkill, but studies have shown that they can actually remove about 10 percent more plaque than manual brushes. But is there an even easier and more foolproof route to a healthy mouth?

According to the makers of a futuristic new product, the answer is yes — and it’s hands-free. It may seem like something out of a sci-fi movie, but the CHIIZ sonic-powered automatic toothbrush doesn’t require you to do much more than bite down on what looks like a bristly retainer. The pressure activates the device, which will then start brushing automatically for thirty seconds, freeing you up to continue your morning and evening routines.

Did you know you’re supposed to brush every individual tooth in your mouth for a full six seconds? Do you ever actually do it? Thanks to CHIIZ’ sonic cleaning technology, the process of brushing your entire mouth takes just 30 seconds — considerably less than the 180 total seconds recommended when using a normal toothbrush.

The bristles inside the CHIIZ cover your top and bottom teeth at the same time, including those hidden back molars that can be hard to reach. Sonic vibration cleans from all angles, pushing plaque and food debris out of every crack and crevice. The bristles are set at the dentist-recommended 45-degree angle to your gum line for a thorough cleaning, eliminating the guesswork of doing it by hand.

“The CHIIZ brush consists of mouthpiece and sonic motor. Situated in the middle of the brush, the sonic motor generates 25,000 strokes per minutes that goes through the conduction bars evenly to every bristle of the brush. The powerful sonic vibrations turn the toothpaste mousse on the brush into plaque-fighting bubbles that diffuse deeply into in-between teeth and gum line.”

Made of a waterproof and antibacterial material, the CHIIZ is designed for easy maintenance, sitting on its compact charging dock when not in use. It comes with a travel case for easy portability, and when fully charged, it can be used up to 20 times. The wireless charging dock also acts like a battery, allowing you to tote it along for up to 2 months at a time.

The CHIIZ comes in medium and large sizes, and optional accessories include a tongue scraper and a UV sterilizer. The developers recommend using their special two-in-one toothpaste mousse, which doubles as alcohol-free mouthwash. Of course, the brush is also compatible with pretty much any toothpaste on the market. This product’s successful Kickstarter campaign may be over, but you can still snag one when the CHIIZ online store opens in September 2018.

The poor wordplay could not be avoided – the Twist&Brush from Studio KG streamlines, simplifies and improves upon the somewhat-tired (and often-failed) idea that comes to many inventors: integrating toothpaste tubes with toothbrushes.

What this design realizes – and other such hybrids fail at – is that something new built from something old does not necessarily have to work the same way as the original. In this case: squeezing or pushing out the paste is a recipe for a messy brushing experience. Instead, using something more exact (like a syringe) just makes sense.

By allowing users to twist out precise amounts in a more-controlled fashion (measuring out quantities, no less), the Twist&Brush idea makes for a sustainable, lower-waste, and all-around-cleaner approach to this universal set of bathroom devices.
