The more purposes a single piece of furniture can serve in a home, the more indispensable it becomes in a household. By that logic, the PixelTable from Studio Intussen is the one piece of furniture that no house should be without. Who doesn’t need more transforming furniture that can offer a whole bunch of uses in one, while looking cool at the same time?

Just like the name implies, the PixelTable is made up of lots of small pieces: long rectangular blocks. The table looks solid at first glance, like all these blocks are glued together. But they can actually be pushed in to create a recessed cubby space or pulled out to make an instant shelf on demand, giving you some customization ability. The table changes to suit your needs, holding exactly what you want it to.

The resemblance to a big pile of Jenga pieces can’t be ignored, and it’s appropriate that the table pieces can be pushed out of the pile to create a new shape. The bamboo blocks can then be arranged back into place in a solid cube.

The PixelTable appears to be just a neatly-stacked cube of bamboo sticks with no defining structure holding them all together. If so, it would be rather difficult to keep the pieces from falling apart when you shift the sticks around.
“This table is also a versatile cupboard; you can place something in it, and on the other side the sticks where the table is made of, come out,” say the designers. “The sticks of the table can be formed into a cube again, and it will adjust itself to every other content.”
The PixelTable design is currently out of stock at Studio Intussen, but never fear: there’s plenty of transforming pixel furniture and other interesting pixel designs to check out.

The post Jenga-Like Transforming Pixel Table first appeared on Dornob.

Saving space is not something we do for its own sake – in this case, a cutting-edge media room was the goal, and cleverly lofting and concealing of books, CDs and DVDs provided the floor space to make this dream den a reality.

Johan wanted to use ever spare bit of wall surface for a larger television and smaller wall-mounted computer screen – no dressers and few shelves getting in the way, nor objects behind the couch to cramp the distance between seating and screens.

Wrap-around shelving features thicker top and bottom borders, creating a dynamic series of stripes that animate and decorate the space – being pushed out from the wall, these in turn allow for under-shelf indirect lighting in addition to a central overhead light fixture.

Audiophiles and film fanatics may find this cozy corner nook to be of secondary concern, but its existence enables the rest of the open-plan redesign … and for those of us who like little lofts and interior hideaways, it looks like a lovely space to read. To be fair, though, the entertainment center is quite exciting as well.

The post Overhead + Under Bed = Space-Saving Shelving & Storage first appeared on Dornob.

Furniture taken out of context can be misleading – sure, it looks great in the pictures but what will it do for (or to) an actual living space in a real room of your home? These sizable shelving units are as much about making space as they are about storing books and other odds and ends. Most importantly, they are shown in creative interior design contexts rather than posed against blank white backgrounds.

Set along a wall in a modern home, these designer storage objects by Alf De Fre begin to blur the boundaries between architecture, interior and furniture design. Spatially, they seem as much like extensions of the surrounding walls or art placed against them as they do places to put things. They are more than just bookcases or shelving units.

Hanging wall and flush floor units are more physically connected to wall surfaces, but the shelving and cabinets set in the center of a room are arguably even more architectural. These serve as spatial dividers and room separators, semi-permeable barriers that act like partition walls as well as storage areas. Two notable Alf de Fré collections of living room organization products and modern shelves include the ‘My Space’ series and the ‘Day’ Series.

“A collection, a distinguished response to novel home living requirements, which relies on two primary references: functionality and aesthetics. My space, the new definition of a living area. A range which designs the bookcase as the functional centre of daily life, providing maximum versatility when it comes to the composition and style. Bookcase with side panels providing excellent versatility across the thickness. The system is characterized by 35 mm sides and shelves which bring to the forefront, the quality and solidity.”

“Day collection is a versatile system for all rooms within the home, offering complete compositional freedom. Storage units, shelves, back panels, benches and drawers to create traditional modules or new compositions which present a play of filled and empty space. The numerous finishes can be matched to varied tastes and requirements.”

The post Space Making: 7 Living Room Storage Furniture Layouts first appeared on Dornob.
