The designer’s Great Sleeping Bear Bag lets you unzip the “body” and climb inside for a comfy evening of restful – if somewhat bizarre – sleep.

The sleeping bag was inspired by the story of a brown bear called Bruno who wandered from the Italian Alps all the way to Germany – the first brown bear to do so in some 170 years. Not being the friendliest chap in the world, though, Bruno amused himself by dining on livestock…and a few people. The government decided to put him down in 2006, much to the dismay of animal lovers.

Ishizawa decided to pay homage to Bruno by creating a sleeping bear that would allow people to feel the warm comfort of being inside of a bear without the unpleasant chewing part. Each sleeping bag is custom made to order, and the designer encourages owners of the sleeping bag to send in pictures of them using the bags so that Bruno can travel all around the world without the fear of extermination.

The post In the Belly of the Beast: Big Brown Bear Sleeping Bag first appeared on Dornob.

For many people, camping conjures memories of feeling safe, secure and happy. University of the Arts graduate Stephanie Hornig brings those feelings flooding back with Camp, a daybed that is at once a couch and a sleeping bag.

Rather than folding out a sleeper sofa to take a snooze, Camp lets you simply unzip the long zipper and slip inside. The sleeping bag wraps you in a warm embrace and brings to mind the fun nights at camp or sleeping under the stars.

The removable sleeping bag cover has a padded interior to keep you comfy as you camp out in your own home. According to Hornig, she undertook this particular project because her own modern urban nomad lifestyle reminded her of camping.

The concept is not only a novel combination of familiar objects, but also serves to keep the living room looking uncluttered. Instead of keeping a blanket folded up on the back or arm of the sofa for naps, the sofa itself unzips to reveal a soft, cozy, inviting place to sleep.

“Stephanie Hornig is a product designer based in London. Originally from Austria, she has studied Product Design in both Milan and Berlin, where she graduated from the University of Arts in 2012. Whilst working with Patricia Urquiola in Milan she discovered her passion for furniture and upholstery which inspired her to design the nomadic furniture collection called ‘Camp’. Upon graduation she moved to London to start working for Barber & Osgerby where she was involved in designing furniture for internationally renowned brands such as Vitra, Knoll and B&B Italia.”

“Since 2016 she has been working with Tom Dixon where she designs furniture for the core range and custom pieces for interior projects. Occasionally she is also involved in partnerships such as ‘Delaktig’ with Ikea, textile designs and accessories. Stephanie’s work is inspired by a close observation of everyday life and the way we interact with our surroundings whilst always looking for cutting edge materials and contemporary aesthetics.”

The post Camp Daybed: Sleeping Bag on Legs first appeared on Dornob.
