According to author J.K. Rowling, fictional wizard Harry Potter turned 39 years old on July 31st. It’s probably no coincidence that it happens to be her own birthday, as well. In honor of the occasion, digital interior design service Modsy has created a series of fun renderings that imagine what the private spaces of major Harry Potter characters would look like today.

If you’re a fan, here’s a fun challenge: stop right here and look at all of the images before you read any more text so you can guess at the references contained within each one. Just like they did for the Houses of Westeros from Game of Thrones, the designers at Modsy put a lot of effort into inserting symbolism, color schemes, and relevant plot points into each room using contemporary furniture and decor that can be purchased at major retailers like Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel.

Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Albus Dumbledore, and Voldemort all got their own tailor-made spaces, some of them reflecting a more grown-up aesthetic than you might expect.

Hermione

Sophisticated yet accessible, Hermione Granger’s contemporary home features plenty of books, inspirational quotes, and proud displays of Griffindor colors. Specific items include a magical-looking collection of golden vases from Global Views, botanical prints from Chelsea Art Studio, a quatrefoil mirror from Arhaus, and a fun umbrella holder by Cyan Design.

The company adds: “And when it came to her sense of style, we imagined Hermione’s home to be practical with a touch of femininity. Her muggle upbringing inspired the traditional elements, but she’s also not afraid to have a little fun mixing patterns and styles together.”

Harry

The Griffindor Common Room serves as the main inspiration for Harry Potter’s private spaces, and there’s plenty of room for all of his friends on his spacious golden sectional sofa from Crate & Barrel. A stag head and a chess set are among the other characteristic items strewn around the living room and office.

“Harry’s office is a quiet place for him to retreat from the chaos of a wizarding household, attend to his Auror’s duties, and maybe even prepare for a guest lecture at Hogwarts. A major upgrade from the cupboard under the stairs, this space is home to his beloved Firebolt among other memorabilia from his childhood and time at school.”

Ron

The adult home of Ron Weasley is certainly a little less chaotic than his childhood home, but you can still spot influences here and there, like the mismatched dining room chairs. In his lounge, you can check out a set of Quidditch-inspired hoops and Patronus portraits, including one of Ron’s own, Ginny’s, and Hermione’s.

“Growing up in the Burrow, Ron’s home was always an eclectic mish-mosh of different hand-me-downs that the Weasleys collected over the years. After moving out on his own, we imagined Ron would have taken pride in his humble upbringings and embraced a similar style in his adult home.”

Voldemort

There’s definitely something funny about the idea of Voldemort going on a casual shopping trip to pick up some wall art at Pottery Barn. The villain may have been vanquished in the series, but what if he’d escaped and ran off to some faraway locale to live out the rest of his life in peace? His home might look a little something like this, awash in deep green and gray tones and full of serpentine decor.

“Not a big entertainer, Voldemort would probably spend most of his days holed up his office studying the Dark Arts. As the embodiment of evil and death, look for Death Eater masks, snakes, and skulls galore in his lair.”
