travelbox hotel room in a box

Travel can be a blast, but sometimes you just want to get a good night’s rest in your own bed instead of a stranger’s. Now, you can bring your bed with you – along with a chair, table, storage space and even a bike – in a handy case that weighs less than the average adult and can be carried in your vehicle or shipped to your next destination. The 132-pound Travelbox by Austrian design firm Juust is an all-in-one hotel room in a rugged silver box made for the demands of travel.

Measuring 6.8 feet long, 4 feet wide and 1.3 feet in depth, the case isn’t exactly compact enough to tote around like a suitcase. The designer envisions it as a companion for singles who move a lot, noting that it can easily be transported from one place to the next by shipping companies.

Open up that box and you’ll find a sleek and minimalist Danish-style table, a fold-down bed platform, a twin mattress, pillow, bedding, chair and bike, covering all the bases for an urban nomad arriving in a new location. The case itself stands up to act as a room divider with a built-in clothes rail and shelving. It’s easy to imagine such a set being packed off to college with a new undergrad, or moving from one apartment to another in the same city.

“Rather than being dependent on continually purchasing new furniture in each of your destinations – an approach that is both expensive and environmentally wasteful – the Travelbox prioritizes quality and provides the opportunity for re-use. Through its long life, the Travelbox picks up the marks of its many resting places and becomes an essential component of the adventurer’s journey.”
