Rolling Beats Rocking: Clever Tank Tread Chair Design

While the practicality of this unusual chair design is perhaps questionable it is undeniably stunning from concept to execution. Designer Jeff Michael was not satisfied with his first try and even made a second model with bent wood, painted steel, cast iron and rubber to solve design problems from his first attempt.

While they were a worthy experiment, Jeff claims he has had enough and will not be working on a third model – the first two took up over 300 hours of his time after all. It is thus unlikely that you will be able to buy one of these to roll around in yourself.

However, there are tank-treaded chairs you can purchase. It is nearly impossible to write about chairs with tank tire treads and not mention the Tank Chair picture above – an imposing-looking all-terrain vehicle for people who want more out of a wheelchair than merely a means of urban locomtion.
