Elegant, minimalist and multi-functional, once you have the system supports in place, almost anything is possible, from entertainment systems to bedroom storage and office centers – all without touching the floor.

If modular brings to mind generic-looking mass-production, or flexible-but-heavy parts and pieces, the Carrapixxxo system  should dispel these stereotypes quite quickly.

After hanging the hemispherical aluminum nodes for suspension, basic modules can be added, moved or removed as needed, including: shelves, drawers, surfaces, cabinets and more, including fold-up pieces for various uses of a single space. That creates a system of transforming modular furniture you can easily modify as you like.

Wood-finished panels – light or dark -can provide a space-defining backdrop for a given configuration, while leaving the walls blank highlights the light and thin elements holding everything together.

The design was featured in the iF World Design Guide, which organizes one of the world’s most celebrated and valued design competitions: the iF DESIGN AWARD. Recognized as a symbol of design excellence around the world, the iF DESIGN AWARD welcomes over 6,000 submissions from 70 countries every year.

“Modern life changes at a very rapid pace. If there is a theme for our lives, we believe it is constant change. Curiously, our homes are not designed to meet our constantly changing needs. Electricity, plumbing, furnishings, almost everything is permanent. Why, when our lives are always evolving? The Carrapixxxo System is an answer to this constant need for change: Aluminum semi-spheres attached to the wall act as supports for our changing lifestyles: Shelves? Drawers? Wardrobes? Tables? Any layout is possible, allowing total flexibility and reversibility. 12 items, 250 different sizes, infinite combinations.”

“Flexible, easy to assemble and combine with other furniture. An intelligent system with a innovative connection between the elements,” says juror Angela Carvalho, who selected the project as a great example of Brazilian design.

The designer is Indio da Costa Design, a Brazilian based consultancy firm that develops high impact projects for architecture, urban planning, industrial design and transportation.
