Many of us fantasize about living in a wide-open old loft warehouse space converted into a contemporary condo – but designed without compromising its history and industrial aesthetic. Reusing public city infrastructure from guard rails to highway dividers and bridge supports, this three-story townhouse manages to achieve this same level of creative urban cool in somewhat different fashion.

Trash to treasure: tossed-out steel doors, railings and structural elements were brought back to life through orange paint. Wood and glass doors and windows were also taken from discarded waste piles. The home itself reuses parts of the original foundation on the site.

Open spaces, numerous windows and a light well reinforce the overall eco-friendly-but-industrial concept of this combination remodel-and-rebuild project by Studio A77, bringing in sunlight as well as natural ventilation while exposing many cross-room views of the warehouse-like spaces and structures.

“When the house stopped belonging to the natural world of the modeled geography of cities and joined the world of things. When converted into an artifice, its construction claimed the efficacy of immediacy; then it was possible to inhabit the objects. In this operation there is an open invitation to conceive of the house as one could think of the design of a table and to take the table as a child does when interpreting it as her first prefabricated refuge in the most basic impulse of the double image of both in the instinctive reaction to fear and flight, and in the succession of fantasies typical of childhood games. ‘About life under a table,’ Fragment of a script on the eportico structure by Jean Prouvé, by a77”

“This is the extension of the house of one of the members of a77. A light metal structure rests on the flat roof of its large terrace and avoids each of the obstacles it encounters trying to keep as many pre-stocks.”

It is supported without the need to anchor itself to the old structure, as if it were a table. In this way it is possible to build a bedroom with a living and storage area, plus a bathroom. Through the mezzanine of the bedroom you have access to a garden terrace located on the bathroom deck and the staircase.”

The post Recycled Industrial Loft Home first appeared on Dornob.
