Maruja Fuentes was an architect and environmental designer from Puerto Rico, whose life was cut short tragically by cancer but works lives on to inspire other designers.

She was excited about working at the intersection of natural and built environments, with projects like her planter wall tiles that gave dimension and greenery to once-flat surfaces.

But her interactive wall works also went on to include seats, shelves and other space-shaping devices that engaged that unusual vertical dimension in strange and interesting new ways.
