Guerrilla Art Gone Wild: DIY Hardware Store Projects
Who has not fantasized about being locked in a big box store after hours, free to roam and play within a world of products of all different shapes, sizes and kinds? One team of guerrilla artists lives out this fantasy during the daylight hours, constructing ad-hoc structures and sculptural objects from materials on hand in various hardware stores.
The team of Encastrable is slowly growing an artistic reputation in regional do-it-yourself hardware and home improvement shops. Many of their works are inhabitable in some form or another, with walls and ceilings or at least loose frameworks in or on which one can sit and play.
Others are more abstract or playful, hinting at larger objects, anthropomorphic forms or simply left open to aesthetic interpretation by other shoppers and employees who may happen upon their fascinating and entirely non-permitted guerrilla installation art projects.
