Incredibly thin in profile, the above concrete chair designs rely on the inherent strength of concrete and the tension reinforcement of embedded steel to achieve their structurally improbable form. Ideal for indoor or outdoor use, one could also see flipping these chairs into tables by putting them on their sides. From a sustainability standpoint these clever creations are also very light on materials and highly portable.
Of course, these aren’t the first attempts at concrete furniture. With the modernist love of clean lines and modernist materials it should come as no surprise that other people have produced contemporary chair and other furniture designs from concrete and steel. The chair and lamps come via OutNext, the lower left chairs are by Jonas Bohlin and the lower right chair – a Le Corbusier tribute – was designed by Stefan Zwicky.
