It’s always fun to have a visual aid that helps you count the days until something really exciting happens. Remember crossing off days on the calendar until summer vacation or an exciting holiday? Designer Anne Lehmann created the Christmas Candle as a kind of grown-up version of that.

The idea is to light the candle at the beginning of December and let it burn from one horizontal black line to the next each day. In this way, you slowly mark the passing days until Christmas Eve on December 24th.

It might not be as tasty as the traditional chocolate-filled advent calendar, but watching those days burn down has got to be a satisfying nightly ritual. Lehmann designed the candle for Normann Copenhagen, which will begin selling the candles on November 1st, 2014.
