Archival Arts: Library Installation Circles ‘Round Bookcases

Sad to say: these are not for sale. They are not even designed to be realistic or practical. “Clearly non functional, they aim to appeal to the senses, creating a narrative which more often than not, reaches the absurd.”

Instead of stuffing books into the smallest, most-linear and static spaces possible, what if we let them roll around or rock up and down?

Normally dense, heavy and only portable in small quantities, this Archive Series installations by David Garcia is a little like a fictional novel in real life, but telling its story in three dimensions.

But it is not pure fantasy, either: there are ancient precedents for entire travelling libraries that moved from one city (or kingdom) to the next – and today there remain bookmobiles that collect volumes and set them on wheels.
