Gap’s singular style coupled with Walmart’s affordability seems like a win-win for both shoppers and the two iconic retailers. Walmart, looking to attract more online shoppers, is hoping the deal will expand their reputation for home goods that has increased in recent years through their exclusive deals with other brands like The Pioneer Woman and Better Homes & Gardens.

More and more people have been drawn to online retailers in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, and Walmart is no exception. The company’s U.S. online sales grew by approximately 79 percent in the last fiscal year alone. Gap, on the other hand, has not been so lucky, experiencing a downturn in sales even before COVID-related difficulties arose. With this deal, they hope to bring their merchandise to new customers while also solidifying themselves as a desirable and affordable brand.

As Anthony Soohoo, Executive Vice President of Walmart Home, said: “A hallmark of American fashion, Gap is the ideal partner to bring its timeless, signature style into the modern home…over the past few years we’ve focused on expanding our home assortment to bring high-quality, stylish home goods and decor to our customers at an unbelievable value.”

The deal between Walmart and Gap also echoes a new trend in large department stores looking to offer a new mix of branded merchandise to their shoppers both online and in-store. For example, Target has recently made waves with store-exclusive brands and exciting, big name collaborations such as a home goods collection with Levi Strauss & Co., a “Hearth & Hand” collection with Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia brand, and a new “Designer Dress Collection” featuring contributions from RIXO, ALEXIS, and Christopher John Rogers.

But what can customers expect from this launch? With Gap’s “timeless, signature style” paired with Walmart’s “unbelievable value,” there’ll no doubt be plenty of trendy home goods available, most of them incorporating popular Gap fabrics like denim and chambray. Add some new twists and design elements to these perennial favorites, and you have a selection of stylish home goods to fit any aesthetic or budget.

With around 400 items to choose from, shoppers will have their choice of items ranging from bath to bedding, including many items made with organic cotton and recycled materials. Add in the wallet-friendly prices ($15.88 for a Washed Denim Pillow!), and you’ve got yourself more than few stylish steals to look forward to. This is just the beginning, too, as Gap Home plans to release new items all throughout the upcoming year, including seasonal faves and special collections.
