The Bean Screen is, quite simply, a spatial divider where a green medium – beans in this case – provide the visual screen from one side to the other. The artist points out that “traditionally, vegetables gardens are thought of as utilitarian, and the potential beauty of vegetable plants ignored in favor of non-edible ornamentals. I use existing negative space opportunities within the home to minimize the footprint of these products.”
This clever design is more than just a statement about going green, it is a functional and relatively self-sufficient structure that provides natural variety, cleaner air and even an edible product right inside of your home. The planters are self-water, grow lights are included to insure a healthy set of plants and relatively lightweight and sustainable materials are used in the construction of this all-around multifunctional and decorative interior design element.
