Summer time and the glamping’s easy… Check out the sweet and compact Gidget Retro Camper by upcoming Aussie pod manufacturer Gidget Campers. It’s one little hot rod that’s hot to trot, proving that size doesn’t matter.
Gidget Retro Camper
The 1950s-style teardrop vehicle has a patented slide-out that creates a king-size living or lounging space in seconds. This means, even if you’re no shrinking violet height-wise, you will fit comfortably. Six feet tall humans do not daunt the Gidget!
Gidget Retro Camper kitchen
The timber kitchen with a toughened glass-top cooktop, large pantry drawer and LED lighting also slides out, and the entertainment system with stereo, TV and DVD can rotate outwards.

The styling inside and out is adorably vintage as befits a model whose design has been around for more than 80 years (teardrop campers were de rigueur in the 1930s), but everything else is ultra-modern.
Glamping at night
As far as other amenities, you also get a queen-size bed, slide-out windows, fold-up table, an anti-theft alarm system complete with panic button and SOS lights flashing plus a siren going off if someone should try and snatch it – this occurs after the wheels roll a certain distance.
Gidget Retro Camper interior
The body is lightweight marine ply-framed, the skin fiberglass. There’s a solar panel, 40-liter waste tank, 80-liter fresh water tank, and an evaporation cooler. The skylight (see view below) makes you feel like you’re sleeping under the stars. Body colors include Lime Sherber, Fresh Cream and Cool Blue. Curtains come in vintage-y Hawaiian Beach Life, Indigo & Frangipanis and others. You can also pick your timber finish and other details.

The “Gidge” comes in two styles, the compact and classic Bondi (from $13,600) and the longer Noosa Longline with larger kitchen (starting at $16,950), and, as of 2016, there will be a third model that can be pulled by motorcycles.
