Australian architectural firm de.arch proves you can have sporty features even when you live in an average-sized apartment. Minimalist and unexpected, this one is front and center in a two-bedroom Melbourne flat, with black grips mounted to plywood.

Perhaps one of New York City’s coolest penthouses ever, this renovated 19th-century loft by architect David Hotson includes both a swirling tubular slide in gleaming chrome and a daring climbing surface that extends up a narrow column all the way to the ultra-high ceiling. It’s not hard to see why these climbers are using safety gear!

The fittingly-named Japanese firm BE-FUN DESIGN added a climbing wall adjacent to the kitchen in the bright and cheerful “Outdoors Indoors” home in Tokyo, which features dramatic natural lighting and a ladder leading up to a hidden nook. The wood-clad void in the center of the home is designed to mimic the feeling of a cavern for a more authentic experience.

Think tiny houses are just too small to ever enjoy a feature like this? Mississippi couple Breck and Kelsey prove that small can be mighty with their Tiny Adventure Home, built by the luxury tiny house firm Tiny Heirloom. The home’s facade boasts an operable glass garage door set into a rock climbing wall made from Rockwerx modular panels, producing an almost map-like appearance.

The founders of Scenario Architecture built “The Scenario House” for themselves and their families, and not only is it gorgeous — with a sleek staircase full of slide-out storage — but it also features a small climbing wall in the kids’ bedroom, which itself leads to a “secret space” with its own firehouse pole.

In Park City, Utah, groups who pool their money to rent a 4,500-square-foot house that sleeps 14 guests get to enjoy an awesome contoured living room climbing wall, along with a game room, hot tub, and private movie theater. On top of all that, it’s just steps away from the ski slopes.

Few residential climbing walls will ever be quite as breathtaking as that of the Yellowstone Club Residence in Montana by Krannitz Gehl. Paying homage to the state’s historic rustic cabins and its natural beauty all at once, this wall is made of real rock, extends several stories into the air, and offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains.
