Markus Georg has a talent for recreating extraordinary landmarks known the world over … in mundane ways with ordinary materials. Wait … what? Indeed, instead of setting up the standard shot that everyone who visits a place has come to recognize, he plays off our memory of these famous objects (seen in person or in photos). The everyday scenes he composes elicit a pattern-recognition response and challenge us to rethink images we have seen many times over.

His subjects range from well-known man-made monuments to natural wonders of the world, skylines to memorials – some more recognizable to a global population than others. In each case he takes surprisingly drab colors and commonplace materials, emphasizing the contrast between the scene he is copying and the setting he creates and photographs. the title of the series is “Die Macht Der Bilder” – which translates into “The Power of Photos.”
