What a wild idea: twist metal table legs into a framework for food-growing greenery right where you eat – maybe a bit messy indoors, but for a patio dining table the effect could be quite lovely.

Per Liam Healy and Jamie Elliott of JAILmake, “The Plantable reintroduces nature back into the experience of gathering, cooking and eating a meal. It takes a currently domesticated object and enables nature to claim it back.”

“The space provided for plants to grow in the four legs reflects on the distance we place between ourselves and the processes involved in making our food. We’ve tried and tested climbers, tomatoes, herbs and sweet peas.” Made to order, each piece is custom-bent into shape with a handmade English Oak tabletop lain across it. It is one of their many pieces reflecting guiding principles, “interests are in humans relationships- how we interact with and shape environments, our interactions with nature and how we learn based on experiences, playing and trying.”
