<p>We&#8217;ve all struggled at times to find the most comfortable sitting position in a chair. It makes sense: we&#8217;re all individuals with different physical characteristics, needs and ideas of what comfort means. Designer <a href="http://www.kirsienkovaara.com/new-page-23" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kirsi Enkovaara</a> solves the problem of the one-size-fits-all approach with her uniquely customizable and flexible chair, which she calls &#8220;The Body.&#8221;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">

</div></figure>

<p>The chair is six meters long overall and made of a canvas material stuffed with rice. The semi-rigid structure allows you to mold the chair into a position that is comfortable for you &#8211; and then it stays in that position. At the same time, the material is flexible enough to support the curves of the body.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="819" height="1024" src="https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-customizable-819x1024.jpeg" alt="The body flexible chair customizable" class="wp-image-88637" srcset="https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-customizable-819x1024.jpeg 819w, https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-customizable-468x585.jpeg 468w, https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-customizable-768x960.jpeg 768w, https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-customizable-1229x1536.jpeg 1229w, https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-customizable-1639x2048.jpeg 1639w" sizes="(max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px" /></figure>

<p>The designer encourages us to move away from &#8220;learned cultural norms&#8221; like how to sit in a chair and instead listen to our own bodies tell us which position is most comfortable.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-yoga-1024x576.jpeg" alt="The body flexible chair yoga" class="wp-image-88638" srcset="https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-yoga-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-yoga-468x263.jpeg 468w, https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-yoga-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-yoga-1536x864.jpeg 1536w, https://dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-body-flexible-chair-yoga-2048x1152.jpeg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Endlessly moldable and re-shapable, the Body encourages users to find comfort and security in any way position (and their bodies) desire.</p><div class="newsletter-inline-wrapper-article">

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">More from the designer</h4>

<p>&#8220;<strong>‘The Body’ chair encourages a person to find their choice of sitting position by discarding learned cultural norms, </strong>trusting in their own body to create the most individual way of sitting. The structure of ‘The Body’ is made from canvas and rice, allowing it to be formed into reconfigurable rigid structures. ‘The Body’ chair has been exhibited extensively throughout Europe, most recently during Bratislava Design Week.&#8221;</p>
