No doors or windows? Architecture does not get much more minimalist than this. The design idea by Iwan Baan is simple: an interior room sites within an exterior volume, shielding residents from the elements while providing a garden zone between the two shells.

The urban lot is filled to the edges and yet there is a sense of openness and spaciousness to the entire structure and site. The roof (like the walls) has a series of perforations that are essentially frames without windows, open to the sky above.

Privacy is accomplished in the layering of wall elements – overlaps created between the outside and inside structures. The result is a living area with a few minimalist furniture objects that is at once completely permeable but also visually separated from the street beyond.
