From cars to walls and floors, we have all seen how tacky fake wood grain patterns can be – but this optical-illusion desk-top note pad block from Japan can perhaps be forgiven as it tricks the eye from the first glance but also has a deeper (if obvious) visual message.

Of course, it also says something quite directly about the origin of each of the 1200 sheets of paper that make up the block – which are, of course, created from cut-down trees long before they reach your office. Whether cool or kitsch, this heavy-looking fake wood block will at least it will make an impression (though fortunately not on your desk).
