Definitely on the side of art over function, this mutant table lamp seems anything but useful – though it would certainly make for a cool conversation piece at parties. Fortunately, that is the purpose that Oliver Schick envisioned for his ‘Self-Reflecting’ lamp design.

The construction of this dysfunctional dual light design itself is fairly straightforward, using standard buy-anywhere generic lamp frames with a single custom orb in the center to fuse them into strange and seamless twins where they intersect.

Clearly this is not intended to be something you purchase for home use, more a thought-provoking philosophical piece than a functional fixture. Nonetheless, it does make you wonder what makes a light work and what makes it more work than it is worth?
