Nothing could be more refreshing to wake up to in the morning than a bedside cup of coffee, made automatically while you sleep – as long as you’re not a violent snooze-button-hitter. The aesthetically pleasing Barisieur is an alarm clock that brews up a fresh cup at a designated time, gently easing you into the day.
Stainless steel ball bearings boil water through induction heating, their movement making subtle sounds as the process begins. Then comes the smell of the freshly brewed coffee to gently goad you into awakening.
The mad scientist setup does require a bit of preparation, but designer Joshua Renouf notes that it “encourages a ritual before going to sleep, signaling to the body and mind that it is time to unwind and relax.”
Coffee and sugar in the user’s preferred proportions are loaded into a drawer inside the alarm clock console, and there’s even a spot for a small vial of milk.
