Chair On Demand: Pressure-Activated Stool Flips into Action

An innocuous little black box when not in use, the act of simply sitting on this stool converts it into a complete chair with back and arm rests.

French designer Arthur Bodolec envisions this object as part of an ongoing series of furniture items that are essentially touch-activated – inert when not in use, but dynamic when pressure and/or weight are applied.

Almost as neat as the object itself (or perhaps more so, depending on your perspective) are the series of sketches and SketchUp renderings that accompany his design process.
