The feel of living in a lush, overgrown jungle is captured in the suburbs with greenery on virtually every surface, a koi pond and a rooftop pool at this residence by Aamer Architects. Located in Singapore, the luxurious modern home echoes the tropical character of the island with dark-stained wood, palm trees and climbing vines.
Completed as a follow-up to two identical homes the architect previously designed for an advertising executive and his two children, Garden Villa features outdoor spaces that have been elevated above the surrounding two-story bungalows for unparalleled views.
The swimming pool features a glass wall on one side, and a partially glassed floor that functions as a skylight for the courtyard below. Part of the roof is planted with grass and flowering shrubs in a small garden hosting a grill and picnic table. A metal pergola offers privacy on one side of the house, and shade for the pool area.
Architect Aamer Taher is known for designing spaces for the tropics that integrate the outdoors with gardens, air flow and natural light while remaining clean and contemporary. Taher views design as “finding an ideal solution to the combination of factors that include site, culture and climate, structure and services with an economy of means to arrive at an aesthetic whole.”
