This is one of those simple-but-brilliant design ideas that we see and ask ourselves how we did not think of it first. Wood matches are already cut from blocks of wood – so why not just leave them attached to the block instead of cutting them away into individual pieces?
This somewhat backward-stepping design makes you wonder: what other industrial products and everyday designed things could be potentially changed and even improved by taking a step back instead of forward? The finished state need not be the final state.
Easy to carry and snap off individually, these clever wooden match blocks are actually rare imports despite their elementary construction. Still, if you can get your hands on one they are endlessly nifty (well, for a hundred strikes at least) if somewhat fragile for everyday use.
