If you are expecting to sit on a cold, hard bench, you are in for a nice surprise when you take a seat on this rather rugged-looking, couch-like object.

A trompe d’oeil sofa titled Soft Wood, for obvious reasons, is an experiment fabricated by Front Design unlikely to make its way to mass production, but that makes a point or two, regardless, about expectations and reality, visuals and materials.

A simple description from the designers, after its debut in Milan: “A textile with photorealistic wood print is covering the upholstered sofa. An exploration in the difference between the visual and tactile experience.”

“Axor WaterDream 2016 is presented at FuoriSalone in Milan with David Adjaye, Werner Asisslinger, FRONT, GamFratesi and Jean-Marie Massaud. Axor invited architects and designers to ‘Create your own Spout.’ Water flows from platform to platform in Water Steps, a sculptural metal spout by FRONT. Focusing on the playful exchange between form and water, it aesthetically and acoustically underlines the emotional potential of the natural element as it flows over PVD-finished, metallic surfaces.”

About the designers:

“Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren are the members of the Swedish design studio Front. Their works are based on common discussions, explorations and experiments and they collaborate in all projects from initial ideas to the final product. Front’s design objects often communicate a story to the observer about the design process, about the material it is made of or about conventions within the design field.”

“In their work they have assigned part of the making of design to animals, computers or machines. They have made a constantly changing interior, created objects with explosions, robotic furniture and a range of furniture inspired by their fascination with magic. Front’s work is represented at MoMA, Victoria & Albert Museum, M+, Nationalmuseum, Vitra Design Museum and Centre Pompidou.”

The post Faux Wood Sofa is Surprisingly Comfy first appeared on Dornob.
