Fantabulous 10-Story House in the Middle of Alaskan Wilderness

Most of us probably think of Alaska as a whole bunch of nothing with a few cities sprinkled here and there. Well, that may be close to the truth, but this amazing structure in the town of Willow is definitely something to see.

Locals call it the “Dr. Seuss House” because of its decidedly whimsical appearance. It looks like something straight out of a kids’ book, and we have to imagine that great adventures could take place inside.

The story goes that, after a massive fire wiped out most of the trees in the area, a man built a one-story home in Willow with a clear view of Mt. McKinley and Denali National Park.

Over time, the trees grew and obstructed that amazing view. The owner wouldn’t stand for that, so he built another level onto the house. And another, and another as the trees grew ever taller.

Over the course of 10 years, the man built the home up until it reached 10-12 stories. Sadly, after the owner died, the house was abandoned and fell into disrepair for quite some time. As of early 2015, though, it appears that the house has a new owner who intends to restore it to all of its magnificently goofy glory.
