Something about articulating desk and table lights makes them seem like temporary accessories, thin and flimsy add-ons rather than intentional or built-in components of a work surface.

This little light by Edward Battistini shines under a square shade when opened, but closes back down into a small and neat-looking box when not in use (with only the base peaking out below it).
